TRD Supercharger to run an intercooler or not

Hello all,
I’ve been running the TRD SC since January. Running the original pulley. My concern is overheating. I had good luck when I added the LandTank modified orange fan clutch. Currently using the Koyorad 1918A Radiator. Generally, I have zero issues with overheating. The only time I’ve seen temperatures rise to 215 have been in nearly a 100° temps and driving up 10 to 20 mile uphill passes going 55-65mph.

I’m looking for a little insight from you guys that have had this supercharger for quite a while. I’ve read numerous pages on mud but feel free to link one if it has some cut and dry answers 😂. I plan to relocate the IAT sensor.

Is an intercooler a true solution? Would an aluminum radiator be good enough?

its not really a coolant overheating solution, its more a fuel detonation solution when on gas and an egt helper when on diesel,
1 more cool air ->more dense air ->more oxygen ->more complete burn ->more power
2 no knock sensors going off ->more timing advance->more power
3 happy crank and pistons
4 *somewhat* cooler running engine

when running a smaller pulley on trd supercharger they sometimes use a 7th injector to fatten up the afr under higher boost so as to "cool" the burn with fuel to get out of detonation range, intercooler just gives you an extra measure of safety
(this isnt meant to be engine specific)

Good points. I typically have trouble not adding an upgrade if it’s an option. I just didn’t want to go overboard. Seems like the best plan to go with the water/air IC.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I have a SC with stock pulley. I would like a little more power with a smaller pulley but a FMIC is probably too difficult to install on a SC'ed 1FZ. The top mount water/air IC is not as efficient.

For sure. I’ve never seen a front mount IC on an SC’ed 1FZ. I think I’ll end up going with the top mount W/A. I just need to make it all fit, already have a dual battery which forced the move of the washer fluid bottle. Mostly just need to fit the pump I guess.

I wonder if the @Cruisers and Co FMIC kit would work with a super charger seems like most off the work would already be done just some new pipe work/fab.
You could also run a meth injection like @cruiserdan has been doing since the don of mankind!

fyi, you need the intercooler core ( on top) and a heat exchanger ( small rad), so you still need a front facing rad to cool the water loop although its smaller than a f/m air to air

Hey now... more like 2 in the afternoon. :flipoff2:

I have thought about that instead of the IC. Have you had any issues with the meth injection? Have you done a write up that I can check out?

I've been running the setup for only 22 and a half years. no issues so far, long-term is still to be determined.

You might have me convinced. Looks like you went with a Kennedy. They seem to be out of business. All the links and pics on your post are pretty much out of service. Exactly where did you install the meth nozzle? I’m a sucker for a good picture

Please excuse the appearance. It needs a bath.

That thread actually predates the widespread adoption digital camera. Some-- including me-- have suggested that we need a new thread with with new pictures explaining the details of Dan's set up. But I made the mistake of confusing "menthol" with "methanol" so that suggestion went nowhere.

Good point. It is a pretty old thread. I might have to start a new one. I’ll try to get specifics. What kit? Where did you place the meth nozzle? Where did you mount the bottle? How much meth/water do you run through?
