Got this put in today. Length was perfect. Quick question... do I have to be careful to assure the holes in the threaded bolt, align with the hose? That might be an issue. Hoping that there is still flow regardless of alignment.

@CaptClose thanks for posting up this picture!. I was about to order the longer 17.5" but now that I see this installed, I think I can go with the shorter 12.75 model. I have an 84 60, so I think I have the same tcase setup as you. Not sure about your question, @shipmag what do you think?

Thanks!
Mark

Alignment of the holes in the hose will be fine as there is a ring in the banjo fitting to allow flow. Just make sure bot to over tighten the bolts. If you torque them down like a bolt you will tear the oring. Its bot a crush washer. Snug is all you need so it doesnt leak.

Just wanted to show the bend around the bolt on the tcase cover plate. @shipmag asked to ensure the hose was not pinched or rubbing on the tcase. As it sits now there is a small gap, as the hose bends around the bolt. I suppose I could route it more like @CaptClose above, @CaptClose does your hose touch the tcase as it gets bent around?

Thanks!

No, mine does not touch. I've got a little over a finger's width of clearance.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does this do? It's nothing like the axel breather I've made.
What/, where is the bolt attached too?

There's an internal oil seal between the transmission and t/case that goes bad. Gear oil will then flow from the transfercase back to the transmission, and not flow back. This creates an overfilled transmission and an underfilled transfercase. This hose connects to the fill plugs on both the transmission and t/case and equalizes the pressure between the two, preventing the problem from happening.

Open the fill plug on your transmission. If gear oil begins to pour out... chances are thatbyiu have a bad seal and could use one of these hoses.... or split the cases and replace the seal.

I beleive I need one then. I drive a 60 with a H55h.
I guess I need to do some measuring.

So measure from here to here?

Also, how do you disconnect the key stone type connector from the shaft to replace oil seal and boot? Shift linkage already in 4L.

Loosen nut?

Capt close and yarrie is that a split case mine are one piece and I guess Im having a brain fart or cant see the pic good enough to tell if its a one piece or a split transfer case? Im asking so I can answer the fit question if it comes up again?

Guys the prices have gone up according to my supplier and USPS. Shipping now in the USA is $8.30 for small flat rate. The hoses have gone up for the first time in years. The 12.75 are now $63.00 plus shipping and the 17.5 are $65.00 plus shipping. The FJ60 most guys are buying the 17.5 hose.

Anyone have this bypass hose and know how to remove it to check oil levels? I assume 2 wrenches to separate the gold and silver fittings but they don’t want to budge (the move as one) and I don’t want to break it

asking this question to help understand how this is supposed to work.

are we thinking that oil can migrate FROM the t-case into the transmission case - leaving the t-case low on gear oil? so if i follow correctly - assuming we have a bad seal between trans and t-case and oil does migrate...it would raise up to the level of the fill hole on the trans - and drain back down to the t-case?

so if i just had a t-case rebuilt and attached to my new H55 - this would be insurance against seal failing between the 2?
