Hi Guys,

What is the best way to go about taking care of the transmission. For trans oil change what is the recommendation?

- Do a drain and refill? how often (years / miles etc.) and how many drain and refills at that time (2,3,4?) some posts on the web suggest 3 or 4 within a week etc.
- Complete transmission flush at the dealer? (some posts on the wen suggest that it might not be good for older transmissions with like 200K etc.?) not sure if this can actually can cause any issue

Please share your experiences. Thanks in advance!!!

Draining and refilling the pan and expecting a positive result is like trying to change the water in a swimming pool, one five gallon bucket at a time.

The complete system should be drained and flushed at the same time, while the pump is running, so that the torque converter, cooling loop and case are all flushed. Every 2 years for city/highway use or yearly if you tow or drive across significant grades or offroad.

Toyota formerly advised these intervals before some genius VA/VE group decided it would be more cost effective to remove the fill tube...and advertise "lifetime fluid". There is no such fluid in your truck.

Not changing fluid because doing so will ruin an automatic transmission is voodoo science.

My recently purchased 2006 had a transmission flush done at the dealer 10k ago at 224,000 miles. It had previously been done at 120k. It runs perfectly at this time.

Is there a way to add a dip stick tube does anyone know? I wonder if this transmission was used in other applications where a dip stick tube was retained.

I did three drain/fills when I bought the vehicle, and I have done a (single) drain/fill every year since.

A garden pump sprayer or a Motive Power Filler will make quick work of filling the transmission.
