Has anyone replaced the plastic and rubber trans cooler lines in their LX or LC with metal lines?I just dropped the engine back in and can’t get the lines to clamp in their original spots and was playing with the idea or using braided steel lines instead and routing them differently.

That's not a good idea, unless you have the unicorn source for metric tubing. SAE tubing will leak, no matter how tight you get the clamps.

If your lines aren't going back to their original locations, you have them installed incorrectly. They are formed to fit their routings.

Thanks for the insights. Just what I needed. They are in the right spots, almost. Haha. I disconnected them and left them in the bay when I pulled the engine, now I put it back in and I’m thinking I should have held the engine up a bit and reconnected to the block before setting it down all the way. I might lift the engine a couple inches to get access.

FWIW, all but one of the rubber lines is still available from US warehouse stock. The one that's NLA can be substituted with one from a 4Runner. The steel lines are long gone.

I'd get new clamps, if it was me; they are springs, and springs relax over time. Toyota spring clamps are historically very good, but new is better than used every day of the week. And twice on Sunday.

I'm about to be doing this also so chiming in. Leaving my front diff out until after engine is in hoping that will make things easier.

These transmission lines give me anxiety.

I couldn't get my lines back in their original location either, after my engine went back in. turns out they got slightly bent during the engine extraction process.
I just bent them back slightly and eventually got them back into the hanger clamps

I've done these a few times, after dropping engine back in. PITA, but I don't recall being a big deal. You may have bent line, or it's currently hitting/caught up something.
