I had a tranny cooler already, behind the grill but I thought it was too small and when it came time to pulling the trailer tranny temps where spiking up to 200+ tems..

So I bought this B&M 70297 13.5" x 9" with a 500cfm electric fan.
with some trimming of the grill, it barely fit.
So far tranny temps have been staying low around town 110 to 150 and the fan has not kicked in...

Here are some pics...

That looks exactly like an 80 series AT cooler. Now I know where I want to mount mine:cool:

That bumper must get in the way when working on your truck. I will take it off of your hands for cheap if you want.

Dynosoar:zilla:

Yeah you and Seth want me bumpers eh !!!

BTW.. the tranny is huge.. 3.5" thick..
I had my doubts it was going to fit...

I'm curious as to what size you were running before? I'm planning on buying a cooler tomorrow to finish off my radiator install. I was looking at one that's a 3/4"x11"x11-1/4" plate & fin style. Seems like it should do the job, but if that's what you were running before, I may have to reconsider. I don't do any towing, yet, just some mudding.

Looks great, BTW.

I had one of those on a past project...I think the fan kicks on at around 160F ?

Well made cooler.

I had another B&M cooler that was 3/4" thick and much smaller 7" by 9" I think but not sure..
I'll use it as my steering fluid cooler.

it worked great for the most part... except when on long grades or driving slow on mountain roads with trailer in tow..
The fan on this is supposed to kick in at 175F I still have the option to run it manually or put a kill switch on it.. but I'll run it like this for now...

Where did you buy your B&M 70297? Any other recommendations for other tranny coolers?

I have some kind of rigged up PS cooler for now on my truck, but I bought a nice PS cooler from E-bay...off a GM truck. Maybe one day this summer I'll get around to installing it.

Might do a search on ebay every now and then for ps cooler..just an idea.

I think the above cooler can even be mounted remotely (away from the radiator) and function ok, given its own internal fan.

Frank - try and get a more solid mounting system than the plastic bits that go through your radiator. I had a similar setup on my old 71 Jimmy and it tore my radiator to shreds in Baja several years ago. I ended up redoing it when I returned (along with a new radiator) with angle iron made into a frame that matched the cooler's dimensions.

I know you use your rig, and it would suck to have that happen in the boonies.

yeah... best to fab up some kind of hard mounts for cooler.

Hey Shane.. got a cruiser yet ??:confused:

Thanks for the advice dude.. actually the tranny is mounted with metal straps bout 1/16" thick or 1/8" thick to the body.. the plastic straps you see there are holding the fan to the cooler.. I had to flip the cooler the other way in order to run the fan on the front of the AC condenser.. I did thought of using them plastic straps and run them through the condenser but I came up with the same scenario you did..

I do have the bolt for the fan to cooler I just did not use them as I was afraid they might not fit.. but know they are in place is should be no problem putting them on...

Thanks for the input tho'... !!!:beer:
Yeah it would suck to have a hole in the middle of no where..:eek:
