Trailer connection

Wanting to pull a small boat trailer with my 1980 Fj40. The rear harness between the tail lights in the frame has a small three prong plug in. is this for a trailer? I need tail, brake, running and blinker/flashers. Anyone have the answer or plan to adapt?

3 wires isn't enough for all that.
Find your correct wiring diagram, and tap into the correct wires.

I would add a ground and a power wire too so it can do anything. Pick a good plug, not a cheap one

I asked a similar question when rewiring my 79. @Coolerman provided this suggestion:

..."If you want to tow with your FJ40, use a converter like the Curt 59196 POWERED converter. It does require a power feed from the battery, but isolates the wiring on the trailer from the FJ40 wiring. So a short in the trailer wiring will not take out the FJ40 wiring. This converter powers the trailer lights directly from the battery so the trailer lights are much brighter compared to the diode based converters."...
