Thought this would be a good conversation piece. After having my share of battleground wounds and breakdowns thought it would be good to compare who carries what in their rigs.

Example: I learned the hard way to carry something that repairs fuel tank leaks.

I bring:

Socket set
rubber mallet
OBA
Winch
shackles
LOTS of Zip ties and Duct tape
Razors
flashlights
Alot of friends that have more tools than me:D:flipoff2:

You are supposed to bring tools and spares with you on the trail?

You don't say! :flipoff2:

I'm talking about the often overlooked stuff. Kind of like a special tool for getting Josh's 40 back on it wheels. :flipoff2:

Also, I think Marius carries an extra pair of underwear when he goes to Beasley. I just bring a spare truck!

How about spare drive shafts, tie rod, and drag link. It sucks trying to drive home when you can't drive or steer. A C clip remover is also nice when you pop a birf.

I picked up the line lock parts from Summit. $64 out the door but will need to fab up a brake line to install. The relay/valve is sae and my truck is metric. Will call John to see if he is avail. this weekend coming up.

One example I learned a few years ago was to carry extra locking hubs. I had one blow on the start of trail 6 maybe ten years ago. It was Friday morning of GSMTR and I had been there since Sunday. A lesson watching Joe Bocek repair a birfield, he carries a spare birfield and all the parts/seals required to complete the repair in a tankers bag. He just gets to work with out searching and has the birfield fixed quickly.

The question of spare tools and parts is a great question. I normally carry a lot of tools with me and a fair amount of spare parts. However when I am at Tellico for a week, I keep more spare parts at camp (such as rear axles, starter, clutch disk, ... when I was driving my 40). My thought is they can be retreived and brought back to the trails for a repair rather than carry them in the truck the whole week. In addition to these parts; at camp is oil, brake fluid, premixed antifreeze, gear lube and power tools (normally cabins and Crawfords has electricity).

I try to bring a "Josh" or a "Patrick" with me. All the tools in the world would not help me 1 bit if I don't know what to do with them. I am trying to learn but all the manuals I have looked at don't even come close to having a "Josh" or a "Patrick" safely stowed away with you!
