Got a brand new 2017 LC and already have problems with the TPMS light after a new tire install. Light has been on since it had 350 miles on it. "Sad", as the current commander and chief might say. All sensors are reading but according to 2 dealerships that I visited they need to be reprogrammed. Both dealerships want to charge me to do it. I told them to forget it. My Gen 4 4Runner has lived with a piece of tape over the light for the past 3 years. This brand new car is starting its new life already with tape on its face. I wish I knew how to permanently turn off this system. I learned long ago how to check the air in my tires! Forgive me I'm ranting but I'm serious, I hate this thing.

I agree. I don't understand why car manufacturers don't build a setting, buried deeeeeeeep in the HUD menu, that allows you to disable the warning light. Make me waive my rights 6 times over before allowing me to defeat it, but allow me to defeat it.
If you didn't change the TPMS sensors (i.e. you didn't swap the wheels), you can reset this yourself.

I can't say enough good things about Discount Tire. They did the initial install, however it was in Phoenix. I'm far from there now but they have been very responsive to what appeared to be a damaged sensor in the left front. Locally, they put in a new OEM sensor, but multiple tries to reset it did not solve the problem. It may be due to their equipment not being updated to the new vehicle. I don't know. I just think it's a sad state of affairs that dealerships treat customers so poorly. I may or may not solve the problem, but at this point I am not going to waste a lot of time trying. If I can find the bulb, it will be history.
Dude your $80k truck is under warranty.. Make those jackoffs at the dealer do it or raise hell until they call the cops. Remember, you're not dealing with the most intelligent humans in dealership service departments. Sometimes you have to tell or show them what their job is to get things done right. Good luck man
This might be the most absurd thing I've heard this week. Your telling me you have a brand new LC and you might put tape over the TPSM light because "the jackoffs at the dealership" won't help you out?
You have a wife? If not, let me know if you don't and you can borrow mine for ten minutes. She will get that light off. Either that or the six o'clock news will be real interesting that night.

Call me dense. But this is not difficult in my mind and it's a straightforward fix. The dealership is not at fault nor is Toyota. Discount Tires caused an issue in helping you modify the car. They don't have the tools to rectify the situation and Toyota does.
Would it be awesome if Toyota made a token gesture to resolve the issue free? Heck yes, especially after forking over that kind of money for a top of the line car. But Toyota doesn't really owe you anything and I believe it to be reasonable to charge for a fix that Discount Tires (and not Toyota) caused. If anything, I'd expect Discount to compensate Toyota/you for the fix as their tools are not up to date.
Is your time and frustration worth this over $100? Just pay and get er done so you can enjoy the vehicle.

Cost me $70 for a TPMS re-program at the dealer.
Or read your manual, there's a way to reset/re-learn your stock TPMS without techstream, assuming the sensors in there are the originals.
Or just take it to a dealer.

Toyota doesn't owe this guy anything? Its called customer service. 80k dollar customer service. This guy should not be frustrated and Toyota should make sure of that, especially for something as simple as tire sensors. Toyota is in the top ten highest revenue corporations in the world. When you buy their flagship SUV, it is the service departments job to make you feel special. "Oh those guys over at Discount tire screwed up my sensors but my awesome Toyota dealership fixed it for free, I love Toyota, can't wait to buy my wife a Sequoia" Common business sense brother.

I think I saw somewhere that the Tundra guys figured it out, gotta be a way..... I hate the thing too. I sold my original wheels and no longer have the original sensors. I don't want to buy new ones, but on my 08, the little yellow Exclamation point is lit up AND the little info screen that tells me cool things always reverts back to CHECK TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM. So annoying.

Toyota would be liable for this if the tire change was done at their dealership. The TPMS need to be reprogrammed when you change tires. Take it to the place that did your tires, it's on them to get it working as part of the payment for your tire mount. Right? I mean this is the way it seems to work out to me.
If Discount Tire breaks off the door handle, Toyota would rightly expect Discount Tire to pay for it.

Ok, the light is now out and the tape is gone. A friend of mine with access to a Techstream brought it home from work, plugged it in and as soon as the system recognized the sensor we put in the new OEM sensor's code and the problem was solved. Obviously these Toyota sensors are a strange beast. The local Discount Tire shop was very responsive when I asked them to put in a new OEM sensor. It was unfortunate that their equipment could not reprogram the vehicle's computer. I'm sure that if I would have pressed my case with them they would have taken care of a service charge at Toyota.
Thanks for everyone's comments. We're all entitled to our opinions and whether or not I agree or disagree isn't important. I've gotten a lot of great help from members on this forum and hope that I have helped a few along the way as well. Let's just leave it at that. It's just disappointing to me that if my local dealerships wanted to earn my service in the future they would be more helpful. I've owned plenty of Toyota's including 2 LC's and none of those vehicles have ever been in a dealership for service, including an FJ62 that I owned since new for 28 years. I guess I will continue to do my own work with the help of people like yourselves.
