I've often thought about painting transmissions. Worried about heat buildup. Do you mind sharing what you used and your thinking on that?

Use VHT paint (i.e. very high temperature) they do just fine. Just make sure to get it very clean......strangely enough they often have lots of oil on them and if you don't get it all off they will obviously not adhere very well!
