That's quite a turnout. I'm looking forward to being able to have a proper campout/pissup again.

I guess the good news is the cavalry is coming ( vaccines ) bad news is, gotta survive till it gets here, so this winter is gonna SUUUUUUCK.

Hopefully Bill Gates' chip that's in the vaccine gets good wifi. :p

Typical Vic meeting  ; but how would you know with that darn Malahat in the way.... :flipoff2:

Haha, just to prove it happened more than once, here was another meet summer that year. 11 cruisers....and maybe the 4runners were part of it too, I forget.

Ah those were some good days, look at all those fresh body panels itching to get their badges of honor from the local trails :steer:

I don't even recognize half the cruisers it's been so long

Me neither.

I think that was around the time I was looking for someone to take over as 'president'. I remember one of those meets was when the Crusty's had returned. I tried to off the responsibility back to them, but they weren't interested.

Post COVID (if there is such a thing) we'll have to try to get some meets going again. Everyone needs an excuse to get out of the house, drink beer and chat about cruisers. And maybe plan some wheeling/trips even.

I've made it out to enough meetings that I recognize most of those rigs... although mine didn't make the cut. My goal is to have my truck back out for a post COVID meeting.

On that note, I've pulled the steering column, bought a bearing from Western Tool for the lower end of the column, and I'll throw my spare column back in in case I need to drive it before the conversion is done.

Does anyone know where to get the bearing for the top end of a 1977 40 series steering column? I've got a decent one, but they're not a standard bearing. I believe they are 1.5" O.D. and 18.6 mm I.D.

Have you tried putting those dimensions into motion bearings website? They can pretty much source any bearing. There’s a dealer in kitimat and one of the guys that works there lives in a Terrace. If they have what you need or can get it I could pop in the mail for you. I’ve sourced bearings and seals from them for my 42 for a fraction of the kit costs. I would imagine they ship to your door as well. If there is a stamped number on the bearing race then even better.

They actually have a shop in Nanaimo not that far from me. I've picked up tons of stuff from them.

Used to be BC Bearing but I guess motion bought everything.

I usually just plunk the bearing in question on the desk and let them measure. Which it turns out is a good thing, when I was rebuilding a winch I had no idea the bearings I needed were "one way" types...

Good to know. Back in the day, Anderson CP Rubber could get anything available. I believe they’ve been bought out by another company and are now gone.

Western Tool measured them up and hit a dead end... as did JB aka Bumper to Bumper. I’m not going to make a career out of finding a replacement bearing for one that’s still good.

Perhaps I’ll check Toyota... they’re only $10 at SOR and were used 9/1972-1984. It’s not worth searching high and low for one bearing... without first checking the Stealership.

No P/N on the bearings btw.
