Did a little day trip on Saturday with my son. Up a logging road near Kuitshe and Minute Creeks near Port Renfrew off Hwy 14. Went up to the top of the ridge where there is a short trail connecting to the main Kludahk trail (runs along top of ridge). Snow had just melted up there. It's sort of a neat area with lots of bogs and old yellow cedar forests. Let the kid drive for his first time (he's 11). He did great! I tried out the winch I recently rebuilt ($100 Warn 9.5xp I bought in pieces off used vic a year ago) and it worked scary very well pulling a discarded heavy wet yellow cedar log out of the bush. Loggers had put it aside as the wood was quite punky through most of the log and no good for the mill. I snagged a couple pieces off the good end. Was great to get out. Second picture down if you look carefully you can just see Port Renfrew Bay.

Went fishing with a friend at Bear Creek reservoir this weekend. Was painful watching his poor Mercedes ML CDI navigating kms of deep potholes on the way. At least it's diesel. :) Fishing was ok but not as good as it used to be. I think it's getting a lot more fishing pressure now. He brought his drone (personally I don't like 'em), but I gotta say it produced a couple cool aerial photos.

Gates have been open up Forebay Main for a while I guess; and everyone knows it. I've never seen so many people up there - lots of idiots. The reason the gates are normally closed I guess.

I checked to see if it's still possible to get behind the reservoir and head up Shawnigan way; and it is possible. There is a little detour around the gate that appears to be open and active. If anyone wants to do some exploring up that way, let me know, I'd love to. It looks like it's also possible to go up Alligator Creek; I've never been up there, but would like to check it out sometime if anyone's up for it.

Looks like a good day, at least he took his Merc without whining about it.
So kudos to him. What engine is in that? Be nice to have an efficient city rig,
winter salt deflector car.

I agree; he's definitely not afraid to take it anywhere!

Engine is the OM642. They make tremendous power/torque and get great economy (215hp and 400ft/lb @ 1600rpm). BUT.....they have issues with oil leaks and emissions systems. I've been quite tempted by them on a few occasions, but in the larger GL320 platform. But dealing with the minor engine/sensor issues and air bag suspension etc. has ultimately turned me off....

Always wanted a Mercedes.

My parents have a 92 Merc wagon. Thing hauls ass and they get close to 40mpg in it.

Pretty awesome car to be honest. Huge inside.

They imported it from Germany 10 years ago or so. Not sure what engine it is, but it needs glow plug system looked at so I guess I'll be getting acquainted with it soon enough.

Is it a turbo or non turbo 5 cyl? Way back in ‘96 when I bought my ‘73 FJ40 I was seriously
considering a Mercedes wagon with the diesel, but it was non turbo. I’d just sold my VW Golf
diesel non turbo ——- I was tired of being passed by 80,000 lb semis on hills. So I didn’t get it

$11K US. 5 speed TD 1992 Cool 😎 One more car the old lady can’t drive

Some nice diesel Mercedes pop up in Vancouver craigslist pretty regularly. Just do some careful research before buying; some are great, some not so much.... They're definitely not without their issues. And quality in the newer built in North America ones is lacking.

That’s a California car above. I know they are known for rusting if not sealed when bought.
Auto industry standard, rust means = need new car
