turns out it was a good venture.... they were selling 2K a year of them
Manufactured by japanese bicycle factories for a division of the Toyota Motor Co. or under license with the Toyosha name. From the 1970's... so now we have a retro period correct bike to go with the land cruisers as well
AFAIK they were still producing the bikes in various forms till at least 1997. they moved operation to Taiwan at some point and Toyosha afaik is still producing parts of various things.
