I bought some oil filters when i went home and some other goodies for my FJ60 back in the Philippines last February since they stop sending us the large Toyota oil filters,theTD004 is made in Thailand and i got 6 of these then i compared it with my old stock 41010 made in Japan which i purchased 3 years ago. My question is what is the main issue between the 2 filters? The parts God need to chime in since even my parts guy at my local Toyota don't know about the TD004,did they gave me the wrong filter? according to the person i talked to they no longer make filters in Japan, for real?

Same filter, FAIK, just cheaper to manufacture in Thailand. Cut 'em open and let us know !:eek:

No longer any made in Japan.

Thanks for chiming in Spike,i figure it was just a change in part number and where it is made. There is an identical filter made in Taiwan that they showed me and it was labeled made in Japan even a blind person could tell the quality sucks, the weight and thickness of metal is a give away.

....they are all made by the same manufacture just that production has been moved to a place where it's cheaper to do. The qty consumed has reduced significantly hence the reason to move. DENSO manufactures the filters.

DENSO filter is identical to the Toyota filters sold in the US with the exception of the color of the can.

Looks like the Jap version has deeper pleats. I changed to Denso brand a few years back, as there big and can be found for less than $5.

I think the Thai filter and the Denso are the same.

I just used a Fram Ultra XG8A oil filter on my 87 FJ60. The reviews of the Ultra are very good, so I figured why not give it a shot. I have some real made in Japan Toyota Oil filters in a stock, but I will hold on to them for a while. Do oil filters go bad with age?

Thanks for all you replies guys, glad to know the filter is in good hands (Denso).I guess i will be saving my last Japan filter unless i can find some,i will be using the Denso brand and TD004 for now.

Net junky can you get new A/C compressors for the 60,i need one.I thought i asked if possible. Yeah a group buy for oil filters would be great!

Spike i do have a used 41010 that i will open up to see and compare to other filters.

Zack have you opened one of the XG Fram filters? I have opened just the basic Fram and they are just crappy inside.

The Fram Ultra is a totally different animal from the traditional Fram orange can oil filter. In fact the orange can has the nickname, OCOD...orange can of death.

The fact that Fram will sell you a filter made correctly for $10. Just shows me how cheap they are. If you going to use a non denso filter, I'd use a brand stamped on a filter made by Champ labs.

Correction! I just looked at Champlab.com and it would appear that Fram has bought them! It looks as if we are doomed, as far as aftermarket filters go.:bang:

Any thoughts on the Wix filters. Been running a 51515 on mine, it is a Ford # filter and big.

Maybe i wil just buy a box of Baldwin when i ran out of filters.
