One side of the strap is hinged and the other has a bolt-through-eyelet bracket. I can tighten up the bolt enough that it squeezes the sidewall of the spare a bit. The hump in the middle really just helps center it when mounting/unmounting the spare. When it was still on the G.Wagoneer it had a j-hook and center cap that held the spare onto the strap - I ditched those.@BMThiker, that is a great spot to put the spare. The tire simply slides over that hump in the middle? How is it staying in there without bouncing around?
