I noticed I had a torn boot on my "shifter link" Ana since I already had the center console removed i decided to replace it. Got a new one at the dealership for $56. I also decided to put in a little insulation while I was in there.

I did something similar using a thin sheet of industrial reflective insulation below the rubber grommet/boot (between the floor pan and the boot), the idea being to reflect some heat away from the rubber hoping to prolong it's life a bit. It required cutting a couple of flaps in the reflective sheet around the mini-boot for the shifter bracket that dives down below the floor pan. It has decreased the temp of the shifter assembly (plate) a few degrees.

What were the specs for the material you used, brand??

It was off Amazon. Thermo tech12x24 sheet with an adhesive back. It cut easily and I still have half of the sheet left.

I have a torn boot too (plus: noise and heat)

Anyone know the part number? (1997 80 series).

I don't recall the part number, think it's called a shift plate grommet?
There are a few small grommets and then the large rubber piece
for the auto shifter lever that goes through the floor pan that sits between the floor pan and the shift plate.
