G'day
Hope I am doing this right for my intro.
Sue and I have a 2000 78 series that we bought in 2004 (ex ambulance) with 26,000km with bull bar winch etc. She now has 260,000km, lovells EHD 75mm lift, a new gearbox and reconditioned transfer case last year care of towing a 2.75t caravan in 5th, (ho hum), 8" rims and Coopers with flared guards, dual battery system soon to be 3, 400w solar on the roof, (200 slides out on stainless slides when stopped), into a 60A solar controller coupled with an 8000w pure sine wave inverter, permanent 72 l Evacool fridge, 260l water tanks on the roof with the solar, usual high lift jack spade max tracks axe etc, alarm and usually accompanied by 3 Rhodesian Ridgeback Bullmastiffs for love and security. I am now in the position to EITHER upgrade to a V8,...or drop a 1HD-FTE into this rig, rebuild the rear end with diff locks and front end with diff locks, (no need to rebuild the front diff - tiny ks). So I come seeking the guidance of the community.... Just don't tell me to buy a Jeep!
That will never happen.
Best Regards

Tor:D

Welcome but where are the pictures?
Agreed, we need to see some photos! Sounds like a nice rig. Is the V8 you are thinking of the 1VD? I’m guessing that would require a front end swap from the 2007+ model. I’d say go with the 1HD-FTE if there is one available.

P.S. I don’t think anyone here would ever tell you to get a Jeep! 😉

Sorry guys, That's a Hopper Knocker Five Post front bar, with a couple of 9" Led spots and at that stage 2 24inch led light bars under the roof racks, that's now a single 48" light bar, with 4" work spots each side and 2 7" bars and a 30w LED spot going backwards. Yep. I am afraid of the dark. The first pic is camped on the Gwyder River west of Grafton. And the second is just the rig out at our hunting patch south of Eulo Far west Queensland with the 2nd solar panel rolled out. In one of the worst droughts we have seen in OZ, I took out Strawberries and Ice Cream for 2 gorgeous little blond girls 6 & 7 who may never have seen rain fall. Coolmate fridge freezer died that night!! Ho Hum. Hug a Farmer and his family.
