For Iowa only: ISU GIS Map Server

They have 1:24,000 DRG USGS Topo Maps for the whole state and you can output them as arbitrary boundary GEO TIFF files up to a maximum file size. They also have lots of other satellite image data. At one point all states were required to setup publicly available map servers though some are much better than others.

GPSFileDepot - Custom Maps, Ximage hosting, tutorials, articles and more for your GPSr, found topos and trail maps for many states. free but you need garmin and mapsource (they tell you how to get it if you don't already have it).

They've changed this site a little. They used to have basically one PDF per NF. Now they've split up each map, for easier downloading I guess. The NF maps are more helpful for driving than topographic maps...
