i picked a 100 pc metric set up from sears years ago, i think it was $100.
there have only been a few times where that set has left me feeling underwrenched. over the years i have doubled up on a few sizes (12mm, 14mm to name a few), added a few extensions and some line wrenches as well as a few other things as i needed them.
but for the most part, that set was a great starting point. it even came in cute little plastic box.
