It's funny to read the posts from the guys going through the buying process which I just finished.

Yesterday I read a story about a guy coming from NY down here to get a truck- I had to drive up there to find mine.

Today AFddude writes about the "overstock" (relative overstock) of white! Here in the mid Atlantic I had trouble finding a white LC and ended up with the dark gray (magnetic?). ha!

So it goes- I plan on keeping my truck for a LOOOOOONG time so I wanted the one that felt right when I got it. Confidence is everything- we're not driving around in Hyundai's- these are machines that we all expect to perform and will keep for a while.

Don't buy a truck you'll want to trade in 2 years-- let's keep that mentality restricted to our truck's 1st owners!!!!
Funny how that works out. My runner and Tundra a both Mag Grey. I have a thing for it I suppose.

And when I bought my magnetic grey, it was one of two - the other being in Oregon, this one being in Ohio and I drove up from Houston for it! The way I see it, if you're buying a 25 year service life vehicle and it looks like what you describe, I figure someone has used up 20 of those years in poor care.

OP - Nice hellfire license plate btw.

Ha. Outside of my coworkers, you're one of the few that get the plate. Everyone else thinks it's something Aggie related... Nope, more death and destruction.

Any why are there so many LC owners in Houston? I'm noticing it here a lot on Mud. That's great. Is there a local club?

Hey does anyone know if they Certified interest rates match the new car rates? I thought I read something on that somewhere. I think the prime rate for new Tundras and alike is 1.9%. That would change my search a bit.

Nah... I say Golden Colorado is...-the place many of us are waiting on to finally release his battle-ready rear bumper. :)

I had a USAA rate (which was 2.75 or so, not great) and when the dealer asked if I'd be interested if they beat it, I said ok and they came back less than 1%. That was for a 2015 and in August, some banks viewed that as a "new car" for financing purposes. Anyways, the way I look at it, if you're getting less than 1%, it's even hard to justify cash if you could do so.

I don't know that there's a local club, but there should be!

You with the guard unit in Ellington?

Just came back from test driving this 15' LC200. It's nice. Needs new tires soon and some cosmetic work, but still smells new. The interior is pretty good. It is a 2015 after all. It could be worth little negotiating, but at $63k it's at the end of my price range. I'd rather use that money for the build, if you know what I mean... I left feeling indifferent about it. The silver color is 'meh' (to me) and now I don't feel so bad about the glut of white exterior/beige interior LC's around. Maybe I'll go check those out too.

I'm sure am being picky. Replacing my 4runner Trail is not an easy task. As I was driving home part of me felt like just finishing the build on the 4R. Thinking in circles here. Anyone want to talk some sense into me?

Ok I'll try to help you. I have had 4 Toyota 4runners (member on T4R.org) and the second my ass hit the seat of a Land Cruiser that was it for me I was sold and never looked back. It just so much more truck then the 4Runner and you cant beat that 5.7 V8. I loved every 4Runner I had but the LC is hands down the best vehicle I have owned.

Why are you even thinking of jumping to an LC?

To me, the 4runner is a great truck. My wife had one before I bought my FJ in 2013. At the time I was driving an F350 so, when I got in the 4R I never felt a presence on the road I was used to.

The FJ had that (more so than the 4R IMO). Looking back however, I like the sportiness of the 4r and while I spent 3 years in an FJ- I kind of missed the 4R and the way the truck felt it could drive for miles without tiring me out. The FJ would get a little tiresome after 2 or 3 hours driving.

When I sat in the LC I felt both. The truck has a presence- but it also cruises down the highway at 70 and is equally as relaxing and enjoyable as a 2005 E Class MB I had 8 years ago.

It's luxurious, and confident yet if you take care of it you still have the feeling you can fuel it up and drive all the way down to Cape Horn without any concerns.

It's a Land Cruiser and even stock it is unique and one of the most bad ass trucks on the road. What other vehicle can you put 300k on the clock then sell it to someone for $20k+ who will ship it to Africa (one of the harshest areas on earth) and the new owners will get another 200k or 300k out of it!

As you know the 4R is great- but the LC is a legend. . . LEGEND! It is MUCH more expensive to build so if you are hesitant you should weigh the benefit of a newer but more stock truck for a while than going older, maybe having some problems but getting started on your build is okay if you are going to get a slightly older truck with a slightly higher risk of something going wrong.

I blew my budget on my truck and right now the ONLY thing I can do is throw on aux lamps. I have plans in the future but they will have to wait for better excuses to start spending money again. I don't have them right now.

Look around and keep searching for what you want. If you find a truck somewhere far ask around here for someone to take a look at it for you.

I was told that Certified does get you new car loan rates but I used an online loan shopping tool and found that Suntrust was willing to give me a Personal Loan for a rate lower than Toyota's APR.

Sounds to me like you want a 2013ish with under 80k miles and some money left over to start playing with.

You're right. It does feel like so much more truck. It's in a different class all together. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

I've fully built 2 FJ Cruisers in my time before I started the 4runner trail. I built a 2008 TT for overland and someone local offered me cash for it. I couldn't say no, really. He shipped it to Russia and made more money than I made on it, for sure. I then took that money and picked up an Audi RS5. WOW! That car was amazing but I hated the fact that I had to be so careful with everything. Too afraid to get it dirty or a rock chip and I missed camping/overlanding so I sold it. Picked up a 07 FJ and went crazy 35's, bumpers, RTT, Linex-d, etc. Someone again offered me money I couldn't refuse for it. This is now 2 builds I made money on. In fact, I'm still friends with the buyer of the 07FJ. We even met up recently when I took a bike trip to CO. Beautiful rig.

Anyways, I took the money from that and picked up the next natural selection in the process since the FJ was being discontinued, the 14' 4RTE. They are very similar vehicles so maybe my longing to upgrade is that now at 'Round 3' I'm left wanting more; feeling a bit stale. And that idea really started to bloom when I bought the wife a new Tundra last year. The thought of that 5.7 v8 in a 4runner package would be SIIIICK. We don't have that, we have the LC200. And I know, it's simply better everywhere.

But yeah, I can stretch the payment on a $63k vehicle (as long as the interest is right). I'm not expecting much equity in my 4runner since it's only about 3 years old. Still a lot of depreciation. My R1200GSA build is complete so all the extra cash I was throwing at that the past 6 months is now done with... But will start again if I get the LC. First things I want are wheels, tires, suspension, UCA's, and sliders (at a minimum) to be ready to hit the road for some back country camping in west Texas or the ski slopes this winter. It's not exactly an inexpensive up front cost.

So yes, you're right the 13' would be the better option for having a lower payment but this 15' in particular is doable, especially if I can negotiate about 2k more off of it.

Well, , , Do I hear a motion to adjourn?

You know what you want and certainly have the experience to understand the pros and cons.

I appreciate yours and anyone else's input as well. There's one thing to be said about this community is that we (for the most part) do look out for each other. I certainly wouldn't want someone else in this community to get a bad deal, (hence the first post).

In other news the wife actually wants to go look at the 15' LC I drove today. It's only 6 miles up the road. We may even hit the road tomorrow morning to go look at this one. 13' Certified with 66k on it. ~$51000. This is the head scratching part. 12k more for 2 years newer and 1/2 the miles (not that 66k is high or anything).

13-15 is basically the same truck. That was the sweet spot for me when I started looking. Since previously I had bought 7 year old 100K mile cruisers, I wanted as new as I could afford so I could enjoy the first 7 years I missed. That 15 seems a bit high for the mileage. In January I bought a 2014 with 25K miles on it for $58K. To me it was essentially a new truck still under factory warranty if anything went wrong

Cargurus.com is a great site for finding deals. These 3 look like good deals.

The 15' I drove today may have some wiggle room in price. Not sure yet. I took the wife over to look at it this afternoon and she said I should take a look at this one. We're headed to San Antonio in the AM. Stay tuned! Check out this 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser on Autotrader

The only thing that seems a little odd on this 13' is that it technically reported 1 mile between services almost 6 months apart. What's up with that? CARFAX Vehicle History Report for this 2013 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER: JTMHY7AJ8D4014271

seems like a good deal being CPO's if anything is wrong

Create a login at Toyota Owners Official Web Site

then enter the VIN as you own the vehicle and you can bring up more details on all the service records and vehicle history

That one your looking at tomorrow looks nice. I like the white- There was a thread on here about LCs in movies- pick out a few tonight that take place in Africa with UN trucks- that will get you in the spirit of a White LC!

Annnnnd I bought the 13' in white. Woo! The deal was good and I made money on my trade, which I didn't think could happen.

More details to follow. I'm a Land Cruiser owner!!!!

Now the build will commence.

Oh, and thanks to everyone here that has either served as an inspiration to make the conversion or has contributed to the thread.

Unless you post pictures, it never happened!

Congrats on the new Rig.
Pic's would be great when can.
