To Diff...or Not to Diff...That is the question...

I installed the low range diff drop in my Tundra. decent quality kit. I'm still waiting on the diff drop Kit ordered in August from Amir, so I installed the Low Range kit in the Cruiser. It works. Some of the bolts are not as heavy duty as the stockers. pretty amazing the hardware toyota used on this thing. I think the cruiser diff drop is a couple mm taller also.
I'm at 3.5" lift with the tundra arms, and I can see the CV boots wearing a little. I had to replace one during the lift and mistakenly didn't get a factory boot. The aftermarket one is starting to wear badly. I'll be replacing it within 6 months.
The diff drop helped a little, didn't negate the effect of the lift alltogether, but at 28$ you can't go wrong.

Have you recieved the diff drop yet?

Yes. I got it in (4) days from Australia. It's going on next Tuesday.

I ordered one from Amir too. I gave up on waiting. When I get it, I'll be selling it.

That kit looks flimsy compared to Amir's and the one I bought from Marks4wd.

I agree! Will order mine from Marks4wd. When are you getting it installed? Like to hear how that goes. Yes, you're my test subject. Lol

Next Tuesday begins 4 days of mods. Icon lift/suspension, dual battery, sliders......I will start a build thread.
Great! Icon is nice stuff. What made you decide that over the new OME Bp? I just tried ordering the diff drop kit through Marks4wd and at checkout to place order I just got a endless window saying it was updating my info. never confirming order. Did you have this problem? Will try again tomorrow

I did not have that problem. I used a MasterCard to pay. I got a quick confirmation and shipping information/updates were sent to me.

It went icon because I have experience with their products that are on my 80. Icon being made in USA was another reason. I'm sure the new OME are nice. I just went with what I knew.

Cool, I was just curious. I tried again and placed my order. Can't wait to have Slee install it for me.

That was me about having issues with my CV's before I installed the diff drop and no longer had the problem. The first time my right CV boot was leaking badly and Toyota replaced it under warranty. The second time was a few months later and they replaced it again and recommended doing a diff drop and since it was only a $125 job (mostly labor cost) I did it and never had an issue while adding 85k+ miles since it was done. This problem was not created from daily driving but from off-roading(nothing hardcore) so I went with my Toyota mechanic recommendation and was issue free.

Was yours leaking past the clamps or was there a tear? My CV boots were *just* replaced along with my lift and my boots seem to have leaked out some grease. Trying to determine if I should be concerned and need the diff drop ASAP, if it's just due to the axle rebuilder overfilling the boots with too much grease, or if it's the steeper angle of the CVs. The toyota dealer seemed to think it was the latter, though I question why the boots wouldn't leak under normal use since the lift is still following the factory arc/travel of the suspension, just starting at a different point in the arc.

My boots were slightly torn but my cv joints had to be replaced. From my past experience of cv joint issues with lift, the diff drop was a success and never had an issue afterwards.

No diff drop on mine. OME lift. No issues. About 20k on the lift.

Anyone tried this kit?

Diff Drop Kit 4WD For Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series Suit 2 " - 5" Inch Lift Kit | eBay

Edit: I picked up this kit and I'm going to try it out. It's not actually made by Road Safe - the box says "Way2Tuff" and "Art 4WD", but it has the same parts in it so I'm sure it's a knock-off kit. The spacers are (painted) aluminum and the bolts are marked grade 8.8. I do have some grade 10.9 bolts for the 3 main bolts that I might use.

So far my only real complaints about the kit are that it didn't have any instructions (but I downloaded the ones from Road Safe) and the spacers are gold. I think they're mostly hidden under the guards but even still I'd prefer not to draw attention to them.

FYI I ordered this and it's not the right kit for an LC or LX. It only has 2x 150mm bolts and spacers, only 3x bolts for the bash guards, it's missing the smaller (6mm?) spacer, etc. When I mentioned what was missing Low Range sent me a second kit. I'm going to sell both and go with the Road Safe kit. If anyone needs a Tundra or Sequoia kit, or wants to try and make them work with the LC, PM me.

Yes, the road safe is the correct parts. That's the one I purchased from Australia

I'm of the impression, anything you can do to get the cv's back closer to oem spec can't be a bad thing.

200 series front Diff Drop

Really my only concern would be quality. If the kit uses cheap bolts for instance could they shear off from drivetrain forces, particularly when offroading?

Anyone think grade 8.8 bolts are insufficient? I'm not sure what strength the factory bolts are
