So as you all know, I'm rebuilding a 22R right now for my 86.

However, something interesting has come up. I'll hit you with info then post about 15 pics for inspection..

- 1984

- Truck has approx. 287k miles.

- Current owner (3rd) has driven it for the last 100k.

- Engine was rebuilt sometime before that, quality of rebuild unkown.

- California carb'd 22r

- Marlin 5speed

- Weird-ass paint job.

- Runs and drives well, though no power steering. Stiff gas pedal.

- Birfs are weeping

- Was wrecked once, rear-ended a cadilac. Radiator is bent inwards some, doesn't seem to effect the truck. Frame seems fine.

- 3'' lift springs

- Comes with another rear axle.

- Chevy seats - truck has seen a lot of highway travel and a lot of off-road travel. The current owner is a geologist.
- Clutch was done sometime before current owner got it, felt decent.

- Floor has rusted through in some areas, bed has some nice boily rust, the truck was driven a decent amount in Michigan. Frame and essentials seem solid.

So whacha think? I would probably have to offer him about $700. I could afford it if I had to, but would put a hamper on rebuild :x
My truck's body is in substantially better shape, but this one has a solid front axle..

Didnt everyone stop using the photoshop lens flare back in '98? haha just kidding.

Im not sure what you intend to do with it, use it as a parts car or a daily?

edit: indeed, that is some weird (and ugly) paint. but i guess its unique eh? then again... that's not always a good thing.

Haha, naw thats legit flare :p

I'm not sure.... I may make my old truck my parts rig for this one....... if I got it *shrug*

Maybe I should just save more...... then spend $700 on welding equipment + classes and do an SAS myself on my truck that costs me much less....

That doesn't look like a $700 truck to me. That poor thing will need every seal, gasket, and bearing replaced.

Honestly, SFA trucks are not all that. The stock push-pull steering is terrible, especially when it's lifted and the torque rod is removed like on that one. Scary bump steer. And by the time you swap it over to crossover steering, you'd be better off doing a SAS on your IFS truck.

If you buy it, can I have the valve cover and oil fill cap when you part it out in a couple of years? I'm looking for one of those older styles.

Funny, I just went through the same thing. I have a real clean SAS'd '86 Runner and have wanted an extra cab to flatbed and drag across rocks. I find an '84 x-cab for $375. Typical rust, a little more on the frame than I wanted but for a rock rig it would do. Driver floor had some holes, motor was leaky and it had maybe a 2" lift.
I passed on it. Why, it was the perfect beater. I have so much into my Runner, I'd have to swap parts from it to wheel the x-cab. Don't have the extra time and lack of parking space. So I'll exo the Runner.
KLF is right. Save up and SAS yours.

I'd say it's worth 700.... if you parted it out... But as a running vehicle, that's got no shortage of issues. The only good thing about the 79-85 solid front axle vehicles is they come with an axle. To set it up for rock crawling, you're in the same boat as if you started with an IFS, everything needs to be changed.

if you can get it for 700 jump on it. Hell, if you had to you could part it out and get almost that back for the axle.
