Hey Rob,

I recognise that TLCA has not been as responsive to members who happen to live outside the USA as you would like, nor I. I have one new proposal I have made before the board to address this, and another one I believe we need to extend. One is to change our bylaws to incorporate an International Individual Representative, in addition to our current West, Central and East representatives. I believe the TLCA is too USA-centric, and needs to recognise our brethren and their needs outside the USA. Our International Representative would bring the perspective of our friends in the GWN, NZ. Oz, Japan, Europe, Africa and elsewhere to our attention. I strongly believe this needs to be an elected board member, not only a delegate from one of our GWN chapters. I have put this before the board and expect a motion, second and either a vote up or down during our 1/8/09 special meeting.

The second part of addressing my outside the USA concerns, I can not take credit for, but give credit to out-going President Alan Loshbaugh. He has already started Toyota Trails available as an E-Zine, downloadable from Namibia to Ukraine. The idea is, the whole world has gone digital, and we need to make TLCA membership more accessible where shipping costs are prohibitive. And that is for all members, whether in Maryland, VI or Namibia. The cost structure will be designed such that if a member chooses to forgo the printed media, they still get all the content, but will save on printing and shipping.

To combat shipping expenses off shore US what if we sent the e-file of trails to a printer of best bid and recommendation in a different country (lets say OZ)? That would eliminate the postage/delay/customs issue. Then just like the US printer does, TT could be distributed at local expense and delivery times. Just a thought....

Geeze....was I way off base? Guess you can just call me thread killer.... :whoops: :o :ban:

Brand new TLCA member here

I haven't had to renew yet as I just joined the TLCA. I sent my payment via PayPal on December 31st and received my card and welcome letter today (01/13/09). There is not much TLCA activity or club presence in Buffalo NY, but I feel it is important to support the organizations that give us an identity and more importantly a voice. I hope to attend an event one of these days, maybe we wil have something on the east coast. Right now I am focused on getting my 1972 TLC on the road for spring. Now please excuse me, I have to go and update my avatar on IH8MUD and include my TLCA member number.

Congratulations and welcome, Jerbear! Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome Jerbear! Thanks for joining...

and I see membership is at 3300 as recorded in Trails... whatever we are doing for renewals is not enough.

I suggest someone review this process and ensure it is happening correctly, and implement a final stage with a bit more active involvement than relying upon a blow in insert or cold email.

I believe Art and Jeff have some aggressive approaches to renewals and they have my full support, including making CA type phone calls if deemed appropriate.

(just trying to CPR some life into this renewal thread after that UBen guy threw it into chardiac arrest.) :)

Thank you Jeff. I sent you a pm. FWIW this type of thread is great. It takes alot of the disconnected feeling out of TLCA. Keep it going.

Sorry....I hate it when someone points out something that obvious...I'll go back to work now and try to tie my shoes without touching them.....

Bill Smith AKA.....

Bah. Just fun'en you Uncle Ben...

and keep that Bill Smith guy outta here, he kinda scares me.

A comment I heard is that reminders don't go out anymore and when someone posted up a question asking about renewal, they didn't get a response so they didn't feel like renewing. Someone from the BOD should be checking this section constantly. Maybe take turns, but a lack of response irritated this person.

It has been reported to me that bind-in reminders are now going out in Trails again. I do not know what the current status of email reminders is, but it was reported to me (a month or so ago?) that these were being re-implemented.

Further, among the most important short-term tactics, which will be an ongoing effort as long as I am in charge, will be for our MSVP, all of our IRs, and for me, to personally call expireds by telephone, and to recruit all our chapter delegates to communicate about TLCA with their chapters.

Where was this post made, with the question about renewal? I will be happy to respond to any posts about all things TLCA. Thanks and happy cruisin'!

Jeff,

As far as I know, there was no interruption in the bind-in renewal process. It's still bound into a member's next to last and final issue.

Bind in's go in a members last 2 issues, service has not stopped and it did not stop.. (not sure where the "going out again" part came from).

Email reminders were on the last TLCA webmasters project list.. The prior TLCA webmaster chose to not renew his contract thus this process was not implemented. Upon selection of a new webmaster then it will be up to the TLCA Exec BOD to work with the new webmaster to implement and initiate the email renewal notification process.
I believe the Exec BOD is currently in the process of looking for a new webmaster.

It would behoove the TLCA to initiate the personal phone call to expiring members and expired members. That will probably be the best retention effort of all. Good luck..
Erik..

Hey Erik... Cindy says 'tell my favorite wheeling buddy Hi!

In. Out. Regardless, membership is at 3300 and its time to take a more personal approach. I agree with Erik, its time to start making some phone calls. I look forward to hearing from Art, our IR and our Delegate on how we are going to move forward.

Lets reverse this trend.

I agree with you 100%, Tony, that a personal touch is exactly what we need. That said, it does matter whether the inserts were in or out because this is how we determine whether they are effective. If they're not in the magazine, of course they won't be effective. But if they are in, as is the case, and they're not effective, then I'd say we need a new approach.

TJK

Have we ever sent out a "complimentary" copy of TT to folks that have expired memberships? Don't we have a "few" extra copies of each issue sitting around?
