So.... my idler pulley started squealing like a stuck pig this week and I did not want to wait on shipment from CDan to repalce it since this is my DD. I called KM Toyota yesterday and they quoted me $74.92 for the part which seemed high, so when I went to pick it up this morning I asked if there was a discount for being a TLCA member. The parts guy said he would see what he could do and then gave it to me for $55.70 a 28.5% discount which puts a nice dent in my membership dues.:D

I know some will say that I could just remove the pulley until I get the part from CDan but I was impatient and wanted it done this weekend and it is nice to find a local dealer that will give a discount.

Not to be the Grinch that stole Christmas, but I'd be surprised if they actually gave you any real discount. It is very common practice among dealer's to first give you an extremely overinflated price, and then offer to give you a "discount" if you balk at all. They will act as if they're doing you a favor, when in reality they are merely charging you a little less over list price instead of alot.

Do yourself a favor and look up that part number on trdparts4u.com and let us know.ToyotaPartSales.com The only idler pulley I could find without a part number was for the A/C belt and it was less than $25.

I fully approve of supporting local business as long as they are honest in these troubled times. If not, then they're still stealing and deserve nothing.

I'll get off of my soapbox now:D -rant off-

It is still a good idea to support your local businesses, they pay taxes that support schools, fire, and police in YOUR AREA. AT LEAST TELL THEM WHAT YOU ARE PAYING ONLINE ,if you figure loss to your community your not saving anything you may be losing money.2 cents Mike

Yeah, I had a feeling this might be the case but i was happy not to pay list which i have compared KM against CDan's when ordering parts in the past and they are the same list as Dan has quoted me. This is actually the idler pulley below the alternator called a pulley sub-assy part #16603-66010.

Too bad you have to act like your buying a car when buying parts from a stealership and try and cut a deal. Oh well, the part is installed and now it's :beer::beer: time.

try the online sales at San Bernardino Toyota, the guy who takes care of it is Mike, now he knows very little about cruisers but he gets most stuff same day or next day if you are in a hurry and the prices are great,

If you want something more than basic stuff call CDan, it is worth the extra day or two in shipping for his experience and expertise he knows cruisers in and out and stocks everything under the sun..

BTW they charged you list 55.70,, jobber is 42.53

I deal with KMT all the time when I need a common part quick (filters, belts, wiper blades, misc trim clips, etc). They always say it costs such and such amount but your price is x (some lower amount). It usually ends up being around 20-25% less. I have found that KMT is usually a good amount cheaper (parts) that other local dealers. Talk to Tony or Rey. If I need expensive parts, I usually call CDAN.

In general, I try to support local brick and mortar businesses as much as possible (and the prices are reasonable). There is value in having a local place you can go to touch / feel / ask questions about a product (especially things like electronics)

Steve is right though. You do need to do the research up front to know what something should cost before purchasing it.

San Bernardino Toyota can get things quickly because Yota has a distribution center out there somewhere IIRC. :D

Unfortunately, we dont' have any half knowledgable dealers in south OC. If I need something quick, I grab my vaseline and head to Toyota of San Juan Capastrano, or whatever their name is now. It's changed several times in the past couple of years.

Toyota SJC is a pain. try Irvine toyota. a guy name Tito knows 'cruisers and gives 15%. nothing like CDAN but it'll do for South OC. last time i went to him though was about a year and half ago.

Interesting - my only dealings with Irvine (Power) Toyota have been nothing but a pain and extremely overpriced w/o budging on price either.
