is that a 2f in it... or 3f?

You have got into another 60 haven't you? I'd strip that, put it pcs in boxes for the day you break those long obsolete parts. Have you priced out heater core? Be a shame to think you virtually gave one away. I have a BJ60 in boxes here, best investment in time I ever made. I've fixed or repaired over $500 in parts already, and not spent a cent. I've got a bad drivers regulator, which will be traded out when it is warmer.
If you have the space, worth thinking about. It's the little things that cost.

Sadly I no longer have the space, and Pop's wont want any more cruiser bits floating around our garage.

After learning that the clutch master cylinder is different on my HJ60 I pretty much gave up keeping her as a parts rig. :bang:

Hoping some highschool kid will grab it and do some crazy stuff to her? :steer:

Not sure what they mean by 'Very little rust (cut it off when I purchased 2 years ago)'.

I suspect he means, he did a pile of extremely unpleasant work thinking he'd never have to go through that s*** again, and now a mere two years later, the rust is back, and thinking about going through all that suffering yet again, sends him into a deep dark brooding depression, and he said fxxxit, and decided to sell the truck.

Just a wild guess having owned a couple of those rusty mf'ers....

If the timing was more appropriate, I'd buy that right now. What a rig!

hmm.

As much as I loathe driving on the wrong side, that's not bad.

Called him. Gonna have a look at it tonight , see what it's like. Ticks off an aweful lot of the boxes for what I want at the moment.

Heh, when I posted that I first wrote 'Here's one for you seapotato'. Then I erased, cause I figured you would find something wrong with it.

Anyhow, I'm curious, did you go see it tonight? How was it? Appears from the ad like a good deal. And I think the TD27 has a good reputation. I bet that truck is sloooowww though...unless it has a turbo on it? Hood scoop had me wondering?

Oh, I found lots wrong with it...some dumbass put the steering wheel in the wrong place and moved the wiper switch...

but got it anyways.

and yeah, it's slow. Glacial even.

Desperately needs a turbo, but there's lots of room on that side of the engine bay so I'll mess with that pretty soon I think. Started up clean (no blue), it does put up a pretty good smoke screen when you step on it, but it looks like it has a rather restrictive airbox on there which isn't helping.

All in all, not bad for the price , (fingers crossed.)

If that little engine did blow up , it'd probably be a good candidate for a vw tdi swap. Or maybe I'd just shoehorn a 3b in there with some cruiser axles...:hillbilly:

I'll leave it alone for a little while tho until I see how it goes. Won't put the vw up for sale quite yet...

(speaking of 3b's, anyone have a turbo they bought for their 3b and decided not to use because it was too small? probably perfect for this little s***ter.)

Congrats! Hope it works out to be a good little truck for you.

Wonder if someone turned up the fuel that it puts out so much smoke when you get on it? Maybe just needs a little tune up work? If it has EGR and PCV, I'll bet that the intake manifold is clogged/slugged up good. Probably a little cleaning will help get more air in there for a cleaner burn.

Will be interesting to see what kind of mileage it does.

Later versions of the TD27 were factory turbocharged, and some intercooled too. If you could get your hands on the turbo manifold, it would make things easier when you do turbo it. Not sure what the factory turbo is, but I bet a Garrett T25 (cheap and plentiful), or a small Mitsubishi TD04 would be a good match.

You'll have to throw a couple pics up...

Yeah I'll do some poking around this weekend and get the engine bay respectable first...little gunky in there.

Probably take a few weeks for me to get into turboner territory. I need to get gauges and such first. I have a 24v Auber pyro I could use in a pinch ( or I'll trade for a 12v one if anyone wants)

and it takes a while to do my standard Hasidic parts accumulation routine. :hillbilly:

May flog the vw before I get to that, but I need to get to the point where I trust this truck to get me to work daily first. It probably will, but I'm not terribly trusting.

ya put some pics up! you beat me to this rig!

Beat you to it? Aren't you still in Cobble Hill? Can't have been more than a mile from your house !:flipoff2:
