Can anyone give me some feedback on this vehicle? It has the 1kz-te motor.

I have joined the forum today but have been lurking the last two months. Looking forward to a landcruiser. Thanks for your ideas.

Hey if your local you can make your own thread on our forum and introduce yourself and kinda give an idea what your looking for. There is lots of info in the Diesel tech section on this motor and the reliability of it.

For the price of this truck I would just import one yourself!

Welcome!

Tmax's collection? Might want to log some miles in the lx before you commit to selling off your mog stuff sass.that 60 is a bit of a project (friend of my kids) but I did buy a nice locked 40 the off him for 1200 bucks,a couple of years back. Rolled and gone now though ,could not believe icbc gave me 9800 for it and I bought it back for 1500.wheelingnoob might remember that one ,it was part of the diesel package you should have bought.

Thanks for the tips guys. I am new to this so I do not know what that statement means???

Checked with the owner and it is an import from germany. Like the lhd, I guess I will check into how much a 97 rhd lc is worth.

Yep, that includes all import markets - not just JDM. The premium he is asking for LHD is absurd. But then two of my three vehicles are RHD and I'd rather be driving my RHDs.

JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market, which means the JDM vehicles were sold specifically for that market. The Euro Market EDM also has vehicles which were sold specifically for that market to meet Euro safety and emission specs. Pesonally, the premium people expect for LHD is not worth it but there are a few people that just don't like RHD.

Save your money bud.

I would not touch one of those with the issues associated with them. Not to mention the price is stupid for that.

If I was in the market for another cruiser I would look for:

5 speed/part time/locked hdj81
5 speed/locked hzj77 or pzj77

Lockers are useful and they help dramatically with resale.

You'll pay for any of those cruisers though.... The rare ones are good ones. Avoid anything like the LJ and KZ unless you have deep pockets. It's not worth the risk to your wallet.

Thanks again for the input. sounds like the hdj81 would suit our needs. They are a little bigger so that we can sleep in the back on our way to northern BC. The 77 series look a little short for that?

An HZJ75 (Troopie) would be perfect for camping. They usually have the 1HZ engine which while underpowered if not turboed might be considered a bit slow. On the up side, they get decent fuel economy and the 1HZ is a very dependable engine.

81s are dramatically easier to find in comparison to 77s, not to mention the price points are very different. Autos are cheaper on both, non locked ones are cheaper than locked.

John at Radd put his 77 up for sale.
I think the price would scare away most people but for the work that has been done to it and the options it has its a rarity and is actual price for what has been done to it.

Just remember you may need to put some money into a cruiser to go through it for piece of mind.

A 75 troopy would be sweet but the 4 door thing is nice. You will pay roughly about the same as a 77 for one. Though it will be used more and have considerably higher Kms coming from either the Australian or European market.

Good luck!

Forgot to mention too the cargo area seems bigger in the hdj81 in comparison to the hzj77.

Either way you'll love whatever you pick, they are both reliable trucks if regular maintenance is performed.

Nice 77! If we took out the back seats can you sleep in the back? We are short anyways.

Looks like a go anywhere vehicle. The hdj81 looks a little more like an suv that spends its time in a mall.

You usually do not need to take out the seats in the back (unless you want to). What most people do is they build their drawers to the height so that when the seat back is flipped forward, a plywood extension from the drawers flips over the seat backs to provide a flat sleeping area.

If I ever get around to doing drawers for mine, they will be built to the height for a fridge slide to be underneath, which means they will need legs to support the extra height over the rear seats folded flat.

Have a look at the drawer builds here on MUD and also on Expedition Portal Forum for ideas. The Aussie forums will have more examples of drawer builds for a 77.

Only if your name is Christian ;)

Here are a couple pics of an 81 heading to the mall:

I have one of those, it's a great trailer. Tiny bit heavy though.
