TJM Vs ARB Bullbar

i went to the 4x4 store today but the guy at the counter didnt really want me taking any pictures.

I did have a good look at the ARB TJM and ECB bumpers. The ECB was alloy and the one there was a powder coated aluminum model for a pajero. The ECB was about 3 times as thick as the ARB but also heavier than the ARB (without the ARB's mounting bracket on it).

Both the TJM and ARB were thinner and lighter than i thought they were, but seemed pretty comparable in thickness and weight. All though neither had all the mounting hardware on them. If i wanted to buy one tommorrow i would just get what i thought looked better or what fits my budget the best.

Overall i liked the ECB the best because it was beefy aluminum(no rust) and looked really good in the powder coat finish. But it was about $300more than the ARB.
here are some pics of the ECB from the website and a TJM.
Sorry i couldnt get the pics for ya. I might try a different shop tommorrow.

A friend has a Safariguard on her '62. She bought the rig from another friend. It may be a model meant for a '60 though 'cause it obstructs high beam headlight just a little bit. Anyway, she rear ended me back in December. She was following me and wasn't watching when I slowed and by the time she looked up and hit the brakes she just slid on the ice.

Both of our '62s are SOA and her front bumper matched up with my rear perfectly. My rear is just a quick and dirty piece 'til I get around to making a wrap around. 5 inch C channel.

She got the rig turned a little bit and hit me with the slight corner of the front face of the Safariguard. The impact bent my rear bumper in pretty significantly. Touching the crossmember. I had a headache for a couple of days and a sore neck for 3-4 from the headrest smacking me in the back of the head.

Put a tiny scratch in the powder coating of her bumper. No other damage or even evidence of the hit.

Pretty impressive. Not amazing or extraordinary, but pretty decent.

Edit: It's a Safariguard, not a TJM.

Pic taken inside a TJM shop. As Cody says they are a bit funny about it.LOL.
The bars do interfere with the lights when a body lift is done and really require a mod. Here in Qld we are only allowed a 2inch spring and 2 inch body lift. I am sure ARB have made a new more modern looking bar for the 60 series shaped like the 80 bar.
Bar on my 80 and the ARB bar on my sons 1HDT deisel 80. cheers

If I was in the market I would go for the new ARB Deluxe winch bar as found on the Dakar show vehicle. I had a good look at the show car last weekend. The bar looks great. $1220Aud. I can't seem to find any pics on the net.

So it seems as if the majority would rather have the ARB and not the TJM... Based on the posts on here, I'm wondering if those who chose the ARB chose it because of "looks" or is it really a stronger, better piece? Both the TJM and ARB sound like they are up to par???

I recently went through the same process. My main concern was weight.

I decided on ARB because I knew more about the company, and the reliablility of their product.

I have no complaints. Bumper is very strong, and built very well. Its also alot lighter than I thought it would be. I do not regret my decision.

If I had to pick between ARB and TJM I would pick the ARB solely on looks.

Personally I like the safari gard the best. Where can you buy the safari gard?

I just ordered the Safari Guard with out the bull bar, just the blade.
I used the link earlier in the post, and called the number on the web site. The said they don't have a "dealer" anymore and I could order direct from them. Very nice people...

Is this a new design for the 60 series? Does not look like the design I have seen used on the 60 series earlier.

Dan
