Guys in the next month or so I'll be in the market for some new tires. I'm going with 285/70-17. I narrowed it down to km2's or wrangler mtr's. I have to travel 1-2 hours where I go wheel. I put on an average 6k on the Fj per year. Any recommendations/experiences with any of these brands? Good/ bad? Best place to deal with to purchase? Thanks!

I know some TAC club members run tires from Tread Wright. They can speak to performance and durability of the tires.
 
Do you already have rims? I've got a set of 285/75r16 mtrs on black steelies I'm looking to sell. Spare is new, others have good tread left.

As for the tires, just got km2s so no experience yet there. MTRs are noisy tires but work well off road.

Dang. I bought 5 Fj steelies 4 months ago and they are brand new otherwise yes I would buy those from you.
 
I've put about 4k miles on my KM2s... 285/75/16 on my LX450

I've really enjoyed having them this winter and, while a snow tire may be a better dedicated winter tire for turning and stopping, these tires have really surpassed my expectation. All terrains may offer a little better lateral traction but anything over a few inches and these thing really shine.

My past experience comes from an array of HT tires, a set of 295/70/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers (pretty decent until about 8" of snow in 4wd) and a set of 285/65/18 BFG AT T/A KOs (they were mediocre I feel for the price point).

Thanks rockstate. How is the highway driving at speeds?
 
I had KM2's on my LX450 and really liked them. Highway speeds, snow, trails... always did great.
 
Well I've been running the new style MTRs for a little while now and I think they're fantastic. Excellent on the trail and in the snow. Seem to be fine on highways, but I'm speed limited with the 4 speed. Don't seem to hear much tire noise over the 3B and other buzzes and rattles.

Between the two choices, price might be the deciding factor.

You know Sammy, I really do like mine on the interstate. They have a nice hum to them but not as bad as other MTs I've heard. I think they're civilized compared to others. I went to school in Alabama so I'm familiar with a whir. Sold a bunch of tires too. They're quieter by a good bit than a trail grappler.

I'm limited to about 70 mph but wouldn't hesitate doing a 50 mile highway commute in them each day.
