I think they'd definitely serve your needs but if your going to have dual sets of wheels/tires a set for the trails and a set for the HWY/City driving I'd go with the MT's with the more aggressive tread. If you settle on just one set this is a good compromise between the two and you can find them reasonably priced. They've held up well on and off the road for me. I usually ask for forgiveness vs asking for permission and she usually does the same and tears something up in the house to get her remodeling project done when I leave for a trip. What can I say in some way it strangely works out
Another options is telling her you'll sell the old set to help offset the cost sometimes that works too 
but this time so far am actually getting a few thing DONE on my sheet. ya I know scary huh!
