ARCHIVE Tired of all the "same", big honking RTT's. So I made a new one. - Terrapod!

>>> NOTICE <<<

>> We have almost sold out of our direct-to-customer production allotment of RTTx XL / SOLO tents. Be sure to lock in your order soon.

Please note - as of June 1, we will be increasing the price of both the XL & the SOLO.

Why? Terrapod has been hit with price increases across the board. From nuts and bolts to raw materials, everything has gone up in price. As a result, we must increase pricing for our handcrafted RTTx XL & RTTx SOLO tents.

The good news - production pace has been ramping up nicely. We are now easily at 3 units per week and gaining momentum.
Terrapod Santa: The next Terrapod Santa run is coming up at the end of the week. We will make an announcement on his delivery path.

Thank you for the continued support. We appreciate all the business to date and are working hard to provide the best quality, USA made vehicle tents out there.

Cheers,
Chad

Sounds good. Terrapod Santa should visit the San Antonio Riverwalk when he drops off that last tent to me and sip some margaritas.

Two deliveries down...2 to go.

With a third bracket, I'm sure you would be fine. It's another 15 lbs I think. I went passenger side for a few reasons...

1) Wind noise/access. I don't want that right by my head while I drive and I don't want to deal with it getting in and out of the vehicle.
2) Coverage - Covers my cooking/work area better with my drawer configuration.
3) Passenger rear covered access - I plan on partial rear seat delete (200 series rear is a 70/30 config) I'll be removing the passenger rear eventually for dry storage.
4) Merica - All the RHD folks mount on left, I assume we should be on right using that standard. So sayith all the youtubers, but I don't put much weight in YouTube opinions.
Appreciate all the feedback. I just chatted with a rep for the bush company and the Max needs 4 cross bars! I guess I'm getting a 270 XT as well!

Wow... makes me want to get that 3rd on my XT sooner than later.

Wow! These look great!! What’s the turn around time, if one was ordered today?

First of all....Thanks!! We appreciate it. 2nd - We are actively working on fulfilling the first 2021 round of production within the next couple weeks. After...we wait for our materials to arrive (early July) for the next round to begin. Unfortunately, we are at the will of our vendors.

However...that is not the deciding factor. The present list of tent orders is 30+, if you ordered today. From there, we are averaging about 3 tents a week.

That all said...the reservation list is growing. If you are truly interested in a Terrapod RTTx or SOLO,we advise getting on the list sooner than later.

Hope that helps.

Thank you. I just became part of the deposit club

Terrapod Production Update 06/10/21:

Kickstarter / Production run 001:

We have reached a point of finishing the first round of production. All the Kickstarter Orders will be fulfilled by the end of June. The final 8 units are currently in production and we are preparing a big run to the West Coast for all the remaining tents. Oh yes...Terrapod Santa will be on the way, soon.

Production Run 002: - Status:

Production round 2 is slated to start in mid-July. After a period of delay, our next delivery of composite panels is also scheduled to be delivered by Mid-July. This situation is completely out of our control as our supplier has been dealing with major delays in raw materials. As such, we have also been dealing with random delays in obtaining even the simplest of items. The random delays have compounded and produced days when production sat at a standstill until the materials arrived.

The good news: this appears to be gradually getting better.

Today -> Moving Foward:

Through out production, we have been adding slight improvements to the fabric and overall construction. Terrapod will always continue to push for constant product improvement in order to make the RTTx and SOLO tents, even better.

More products: We certainly see more product ideas for vehicle storage, tent accessories, etc. Look for more exciting things to come.
Events / Shows: To date, we are planning to be a part of Overland Expo East in October. We would also like to plan for an RTTx Owners Rally as well (Stay tuned).

In the meantime, A hardy thank you to all of our customers who have been a part of our adventure. We have enjoyed meeting you and learning more about your many wonderful adventures. Thank you for allowing Terrapod to be a part of them.

One last item: Existing customers who have received their tents. Please post your feedback here. Many have been following the forum threads. Your feedback (good or not-so-much) would be appreciated. Not only will it help folks understand the RTTx, it will also help us make it even better. Thx!

Cheers,
Chad

If anyone has pictures of their mattress setup, I would love to see it.

I use to have a Tepui RTT - the big bulky ones. I hated setting it up but the foam mattress was awesome.

The exped is really nice. You can check them out at REI if there's one near you. I have two already and the one that I got with the tent will be my third.

I used one for the back of my truck for the last 3 years. It's just so dang bulky!

Maybe to clarify my request: post pics of your interior / mattress setup. :bounce:

Check out terrapod Instagram page, they recently took a photo of the inside setup with exped and sleeping bag etc.

A lot depends on "which one" you use. We specifically spec'd the DeepSleep units. They deflate and pack away much, much better than larger models. Although, our SOLO tents work very well with the narrower Exped Megamats.

Personal take: I am personally not a fan of inflatable mattresses. That was until I tried the Exped's. Total game changer. Best sleep ever in a RTT. It was a no-brainer for us to partner with them.

Of course - this is also why we offer them as an option. Mattress comfort is a very personal thing. A one-size-fits-all mattress will not work for everyone. So...we went out and found the very best option with an ability to adjust to the user's preferred comfort. Exped won...hands down.

Hope that helps.

FWIW I know the Exped stuff is awesome, no argument there. Personally I use the Nemo Cosmo insulated inflatable and I am very happy with it. Packs small, inflates super fast and I think it’s super comfortable. Two of the 25s fit perfectly in the Terrapod, and isolate one side from the other which is important if you have two people in there.

I'm not sure if this has been answered already - sorry in advance if it has.

Can anyone comment what the maximum height of person would be for this tent? I see that that sleeping area measures 86" and that the mattress measures 78", but that leaves a lot of guessing as to how tall one can be and still lie flat on their back before their feet touch the roof.

Perhaps someone can get in a tent, wiggle their way down until their feet touch the roof, and then measure from their head to the "back" or "head" of the tent? With that distance and their height it might give a sense for a maximum height that could be accommodated?
