How many RTT's do you know of...that can do this?
For those who have asked regarding standard 7 foot Garage doors - Here you go.

Details as shown:

1) Vehicle details: 2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail with a 3.5" lift, 275/70/17 tires
2) Terrapod RTTx Tent with Rhino-Rack Backbone mount.
3) Garage door is a standard 2 car 7 foot tall garage door.

The Rhino-Rack Backbone as a direct mount for the RTTx provides not only the best mounting option, it allows the vehicle to retain the proper aerodynamic airflow over the roof.

Only 12 left on the Kickstarter First Editions. Get it while you still can!

For those of us that have to use gutter mounts, are there any alternative recommended options in place of Trail Tailor if they are not available?

Trail Tailor show to be sold out on the website. I reached out to Jason and am waiting to hear back to see if he has them or not.

Technically speaking - any adjustable gutter mount that offers a nice flat surface to mount the tent's crossbars onto, will work. We liked Trail Tailor's due to brackets being really beefy and their ability to go really low, but still maintain the roof to tent gap.

The bolts from the crossbars are 5/16" and are 1.5" on center if using both tracks (recommended for a HD attachment).

Hope that helps.

That helps.

Hopefully he does have some in stock. His products do have a reputation for being "beefy".

Worse case, I will get a set elsewhere.

I've been waiting over a month for a reply from Trail Tailor. Eezi-Awn sells their 6" legs separately but that probably puts the tent higher than most would want.

@TRAIL TAILOR stuff is awesome and he’s a good guy. Check in with him and he will get back to you. I’ve had my RTTx mounted with his brackets for multiple cross country trips and crazy rock climbs and I have not had to touch them since install. Love them.

M,

I have 10 or so pair of bare metal and available on the website. My powder coated is way backed up and not sure when I will have powdered back in stock.

I plan to use my ARB gutter mounts since I already have them, otherwise would be going with the TT ones. These sit decently low and look like the bolt spacing is right on already if I have to use the crossbars. They definitely are not as beefy as the TT though.

@JJBiggs will the production versions be able to mount "directly" as the prototype 002 is on the 80 (gutter mount directly to tent base), or will the crossbars be necessary?

This is the lowest setting of the ARB gutter mounts, about 130 mm from the bottom of the gutter to the mounting surface.

@8cam You only need four brackets for the Terrapod rtt?

That's right I only use four brackets. I originally planned on six, but once we started setting it up it was obvious that four did the job just fine. The tent has a tremendous amount of rigidity and the mounts are stout. I have driven it in this configuration across the country six times now, and multiple trips down to Florida, probably over 15k miles with the tent mounted. All over the southern Appalachians, Moab and two different trips to the San Juans. I've checked the bolts periodically, but have not had to touch them at all. As far as I'm concerned, the tent is permanently on my roof. @TRAIL TAILOR 's stuff is seriously good. The tent isn't too shabby either.

For reference, I don't baby it. The tent itself it still 100% as-built, totally tight and solid (a few dings and scratches here and there), and the gutter mounts are like bedrock.

The crossbars will be necessary and look like they should bolt directly to your brackets without problem.

PLEASE NOTE - 8cam's proto tent was built as a direct mount. After further work, we determined the tent worked best with crossbars. The crossbars also provided extra mounting locations, so it was a no-brainer.

How many mounts do I need if using crossbars?

We recommend 6 attachments (3 bars), but the 80 series guys could get away with using 2 crossbars, located at the 1/3rd points of the tent (front and back).

I love how perfect you got the fabric to fit! It almost looks like a render instead of the real thing. Speaks loudly where you stand on value/quality!

Dude...of course that's a render.
Straight from the RTTx's CAD model. The first production unit is being finished as I type.

That said - Quality. Damn straight!

Haha well now you have goals to fulfill! (I figured you just got really good with a steamer to get every wrinkle out.)
