ARCHIVE Tired of all the "same", big honking RTT's. So I made a new one. - Terrapod!

Can you provide more details? I'm interested in attaching the 270 xt, curious about bracket if necessary etc. I'm doing it on a 100 with backbone.
I had to do some hacking. Here is a picture of the bracket after I modified to fit Terrapod rails.

Also, if you mount as low as possible the lowest rail will swing under the bottom rear of the tent allowing the lift gate to go up high enough. Otherwise you will need to move the tent forward and the awning back. The pictures above show the rail under the back. This also gives you a little horizontal support.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, this helps a ton! Did you trim one side of the brackets? Looks like onside had the fold cut/trimmed off. Also is this the heavy duty bracket from The Bush Company?

Yes. I trimmed one side. The bracket was the same width as the Terrapod rail, so I didn't have much choice. Ideally, you would want a custom bracket that would fit the rail better. Eventually I will work on a better solution. The brackets were actually in the box with the awning. I expected I would have to either fab my own or buy aftermarket mounts. The website doesn't mention standard brackets, but somehow I got them. In fact, I would like to get one more and have three supports. Two is petty solid, but I would feel better with three.

Is that the 270 or 270 XT? Do you feel it's fairly sturdy supporting the weight? I believe the bush company awnings are 65+ lbs. but I supposed its better to mount from rails vs. to the side of the RTT.

R270 XT (Not the MAX). I'm 6'1 225, I can almost hang all my weight on a single bracket. It's the rails under the tent that flex not the brackets.

From what you have done with the brackets and adding a 3rd support bracket you see any issues with the MAX being installed on the backbone and terrapod supports? Also what decision factors had you select passenger side vs. drivers side?

With a third bracket, I'm sure you would be fine. It's another 15 lbs I think. I went passenger side for a few reasons...

1) Wind noise/access. I don't want that right by my head while I drive and I don't want to deal with it getting in and out of the vehicle.
2) Coverage - Covers my cooking/work area better with my drawer configuration.
3) Passenger rear covered access - I plan on partial rear seat delete (200 series rear is a 70/30 config) I'll be removing the passenger rear eventually for dry storage.
4) Merica - All the RHD folks mount on left, I assume we should be on right using that standard. So sayith all the youtubers, but I don't put much weight in YouTube opinions.

Is it still an option for the first wave of kickstarter orders that haven't been started for assembly yet or has the team already caught up on the fabric assembly?

Howdy...

Every part within our tents are CNC made. To and including our fabric (we have them CNC cut for consistency). We have all parts pre-made and ready for assembly to expedite the process. With that all said...we have nearly all of the First Edition units are accounted for with nearly all custom made parts ready to go. (Minus the small stuff...that's ongoing.)

To answer your question - technically no. That is...unless you would like to push your order to a later assembly time? The new fabric is an additional charge and is considered an upgrade. Each will be made in specific batches. (As in...we cannot send a single set of fabric for cutting. We do them in larger quantities.)

Hope that makes sense. Email me if you have any further questions.

PRODUCTION UPDATE 05/12/21

Great news - we are well more than 1/2 way through the Kickstarter production. With only a handful of the tents remaining, we are working hard to knock them out ASAP. Production pace has increased quite a bit with the addition of experienced sewing personnel who have made a significant impact. So much so, we are up to 2-3 tents per week.

Thank you for your continued patience.

In other news... we are working with ARB to be able to offer their fantastic products... and working to build a relationship with a regional distributor to help make our West Coast customers even happier. (...more to come on that...stay tuned.)

In the meantime...I present you with the single, one-of-a-kind, RTTx with a Foliage colored rainfly. Only a single person in the original opening production selected this color. It will be the only one of its kind.

Thanks for the update! Look forward to additional info on the relationship with ARB! Hopefully a possible discount for early adopters of the tent for ARB products.....I have a pretty decent list of items to order.

Update #2 - The fuel BS in the south.

Hey everyone...we are unable to do the Texas Terrapod Santa run this weekend as we had previously planned, due to the slight fuel debacle in South. That said - we are rescheduling another run for next weekend. Texas customers - git ready. Terrapod Santa is coming your way soon.

So it sounds like you’ll have time to add old #23 to the Texas run since you’re already headed this way.

Kidding man, Kos has been great at keeping me up to date and I know where it stands.

Does the Santa run also include mine (#25)?

prlly missed it but...what are these pricing at? thanks...look awesome!!
