Tire chains - where to buy

I think I tried doing something like this about 10 yrs ago. I think it was suggested I find a set of the nicest chains I could afford, in the closest size, and add or delete links as required until they fit.
Times probably have changed, but I can't recall seeing chains for 33 x 12.5's.

I read about that, John.

It struck me that here you were, talking about chains at 7:30 this morning.

Odd eh?

Ya, you can either call me a jinx :frown:or someone who's got ESP:rolleyes:. I did think about them. But first not knowing the trail and it being labled a family run I never considered we would need them. And second, I don't have chains for the Safari. :o I have a set of chains in Princeton but they were off an old Chev 4X4 I had and would not fit. I was just telling a freind up in Hudson Hope that chains will be my next pruchase for the truck. Without a good anchoring point, a winch would have been pretty much useless with our troubles today. In fact with all the wheeling up in the Princeton area when I was younger, I never owned a winch. I had a set of chains, two come alongs, a high lift jack, chain & wire rope and a Swede saw. That collection of tools got me out of a lot of stupidity.:grinpimp:

I think I got mine from midway a few years back, they were a set of used trucker chains, and they fit anything from 33s to 36s, They definately kick ass.
Cheers,
Deny

Cool, thanks guys, I seem to have all the other goodies listed above but the chains. Great, another thing I need to find space for in the truck.

Not to mention the weight.

Extra weight can be a good thing...

Have you seen how much stuff is in Fantoms truck! I guess another 40lbs won't make much of a difference. I see a turbo'd 3B in Fantoms future...

I know have finally had a chance to organize all the goodies in the back and I still have no space. At least I now have proper and organized caddies for my trail parts, upgraded my socket collection and grabbed a couple more useful tools for the trail.
Jeff....no......That looks like an awesome invention that will be nicely ripped off on the first rock or tree, besides, I am not sure I like the idea of some chains spinning freely under my truck.
I gave Midway a call today and they have the chains in stock, the guy recommended the heavy duty for what we do which are made from real chain and not the Crappy tire specials with aircraft cable. They can do a test fit and show you how to put them on properly on site, the only thing is that they are not cheap - $235 or so/pair. Still it is cheaper then a new roof, doors, or who knows what else, never mind the hassle of getting out of the place you slid into if that is even possible. So I'll be picking up a set on Wed. and hopefully won't need them but if I do I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
Phil - I would love a 13BT, and a new frame, and body without rust, you know where that is going..... Oh well, I've had my eye on an FJ45 for a while that I could build up to be the perfect trail rig but the old guy does not want to sell yet, hopefully soon.

I was over on the Greggs Distributor's web site: http://www.greggdistributors.ca/ and see they have a real big selection of chains. The sizes are in biasply but they have a page with a converter for radial and LT sizes. I just sent in a request for a quote my 31s. The closest location to us is in Langley on 96th close to 200th.

If you don't mind, post the price here please.

Will do, still no reply on the e-mail so may call if I don't hear anything from them by tomorrow AM. BTW, Crushers put me on to them as a source of 24V stuff like bulbs and lights. Prices seem decent on their web flyer specials.

That sounds like the best idea for sure. I have cheap c tire ones. They work well on the road with a 2wd pickup. I used them on my T100 just fine. The aircraft cable is strong. BUT all chain is what you want for heavy use.

One note..... be careful with your birfs. Chained on the front is going to be a lot of stress. Gentle and I think your fine. Unless you are locked in the front. If so, I would leave the chains to the rear only.

IMOP chains are only needed when you are on something shallow enough you bite to the bottom. And it is slick. Chains on ice are awesome.
