I've had such amazing luck with BFG's...especially the AT KO that I'd not change at any savings.

In fact, the AT's on my 100 have been through hell....3 sets. They've handled things so well that I slapped AT KO's onto my new Lexus dedicated trail vehicle. The MT KM's I ran on my '93 I hated. They wheel well though noise and mainly balancing is a constant pain. So far on the Lexus with AT's I can still do it all. I highly doubt there's much difference between the BFG AT and MT in durability.

Wow, pray tell what did you do to have to replace tires every 12-18 months!

Who? Me?

Kind of that often. :D

33's went on at the 12K mark.

Upgraded to 35's via trade at about 40K

2 of those 35s could not be balanced at about 75K so I got 2 new one free and traded for two more new ones. This gave me a whole new set. I chew them up dearly from rocks and wild trails.

Now, at 110K the tires are wearing. The truck pulls to the right. We swapped fronts and now it pulls to the left. I have one tire that's tweaked. We're gonna rotate to the rear and see. If not I'm sure I'll get a freebee, then trade in the other 3 for new ones. :D

I eat these things up!

Sounds like its time for a new brand of tires

No way! I will however jump at any opportunity to trade in a half-worn tire with chunks and cuts all over itself. So far I've been lucky. I'll pay the price to keep a new and safer tire on the vehicle. Both times I got $45/tire trade and the tires were BEAT. I'll take that deal!

Second that. I just had the local America's Tire company offer me a trade in on my BFG A/T's that have 10/32" of tread left on them. I am seriously debating whether to get another set as I have 40k miles on them and like tires with lots of tread depth.

on my BFG A/T's

Okay, not trying to offend and to hijack the thread a little, but what is up with the gigantic love fest for BFG ATs? I've had many sets and they all were subpar. I didn't want to believe it at the time, but they were. ATs were terrible in ice & snow & wet & damp sand & when someone pissed in Paris. I had through most sets countless slow leaks and became to worn to mount more than about 2-3 times. I am certainly not the only one.

I guess my point is that I am still so suprised to see how many folks run BFG ATs and are willing to pay a premium for a rather average tire.

I believe it's (AT KO) the #1 selling light truck tire in the US. That's why you see that so many like them.

I've had great luck with my BFG's which is why I continue to run them. I guess my question would be, what A/T have you found that works better?

Ford F-150 is the #1 selling light truck in the US too :), but we can all certainly agree on not liking them nor finding the utility and quality in them as much as our Cruisers.

Fair enough. I on the other hand have not had the same experience. I do live in PHX now and before in the DEN area and then as such saw significant terrain and condition changes that may have `driven' my experience. I may in fact not have the same issues in desert.

I'm comfortable saying the GY AT/Ss have been an amazing tire especially in winter for me. Additionally the BigO XT and Maxxis MT-753 Bravo.

I may not run them myself, but I was recently on a trip with a mudder here who ran Nittos Terra Grapplers (sp?) and whomped a very truly competent/built Rover; we all attribute it to the tires in this particular case; don't like 'em personally but they did well in this particular varied terrain case (and plus it ain't real hard to beat a Rover is it?)

FWIW I am not a fan of the GY MTR for the same reason as the BFG AT/KOs, but I'll cease my ramblings...

I've been looking for tables of who makes what tires for a while. That is great information. Thanks guys.

In my opinion tires are too important to the safety of the vehicle to buy from a manufacturer who won't put their name on the product or to buy from a dealer who can't/won't tell you who made it.

Well... as of today..

This is a thread about relativly inexspensive tires correct? Great information in the table but little else. I've never run retreads and from what I've read I would not. Check that what you are buying is NOT a retread or whatever they want to call it. I went Nitto TG AT295 $152 each, great on roads, Moab, & dirt. Not great in Mud or loose rocks. Everything I expected out of a reasonable priced tire. I'd buy them again. Oh yeah, you get what you pay for.

I like to use tirerack ranking system by type of tire to give you a good feel for the top tires. Normally I've always bought the name brands. Tires are very important to your survival.
