My timing cover is warped. I ordered a replacement from Oreillys. Two options are available. One for 81-84, the one for 85-95. I have an 84. So i got the one for 84. I have the "old" block. Not laser cut as I do not have an winged looking symbol on the block.

I put the water pump and oil pump on, get ready to install it and there is a 1/4" gap on the top. WTF?

Do i need the one for an 85? It took me forever just to get this one... Ah... Im exhausted...

Or is this one for the 85 and boxed wrong?

Thanks!

The newer ('85+) block is shorter, by 0.190", read this: LC Engineering

They sent you the wrong cover.

No offense, but this is the end of another lesson on why I don't buy parts from stores like this.

FIPG? :D Hehehe It sounds like you have an earlier block, I'm pretty sure they are the taller ones... This is an item that should be listed by vin, not by year... 84-85 owners always have trouble with timing kits, and covers...

This was by 'engine' code. Maybe this isnt the original engine... My timing chain was for the same application, it works fine.
Oreillys blows.....
Ill call toyota to see if they can get them 2morrow.

Sorry... I re tapped the holes on my block just to ensure no leaks. I also re-tapped all the holes on the old timing cover. Had it all back together and noticed the damngasket had been shoved back by the top of the cover, so i started over. second time around I got it all togother and it leaked water around the bottom of the water pump. I was pissed. Atleast this time its only the water pump... Hopefully shell make that long drive tomorrow. After i get it all together of course!

man you have not had that good luck happen to you...

hey, look on the bright side, you could be hilux, sittin on more than one engine that has insane problems. all due improper this and that, not the fault of the engine...

Tides of luck are changing... And its going to get nasty again!
But the time change kicked my ass, so im still trying to get up and around to my truck...

Fxxx! One of those days again... Leaking water... Fixed it... Start 'er up... Purrring like a new engine... All is well! Then disaster strikes... Oil leak... No biggy... But a let down none-the-less... Get her off and teh seal had been smashed. I spend the next two hours at Oreillys waiting to be "let go". Havent had any hours in forever, and there talking about a hiring a new part time. WTF?!

I get home, find the Oil seal i had 'misplaced' in the kitchen of all places, (by those piss ants of wristys) and proceed to put it all back together. All is well, i get a phone call, dad torques down the bolts. While im on the phone i get a barrage of nasty language from the garage... Dad stripped the very top bolt on the oil pump. Im pissed because i had retapped them all just to make sure this wouldnt happen... Spend the next hour looking for a bolt that just one size bigger, only to no avail.

Get a warnign on a tailligth thats out, when i just replaced it.

Seems the tides will stay for now... Fxxx!!!!!!
