think these motor mounts will work and clear the front diff (with some lift) or will they just inherently mount the motor too low?

My setup is quite different.

Here you can see it together (old mounts were bad so i replaced the sandwich mount with a hockey puck)

To answer your question, it looks like your setup "should" work, my biggest concern would be the clearance of the oil pan. I personally have more issues with my high steer setup hitting my oil pan. My engine doesnt come near the diff except on full flex.

This is a shot straight below my mounts. you can see one drag link in the picture (top side)

and another shot from the front.

I guess the biggest disclaimer here that i didnt really take into account until now though, is im sprung over, so obviously this helps me.

I would use the Second option. It's what I've used on other projects and they work great. Plus easier to get to the pan if need be.

I like those second ones better, also. Figure out where your motor has to sit and tack weld the mounts. Check and triple check before welding in solid.

What year Chevy are you using?

The "good" things on the last one is the "spring" bushing stiffens up the motor and allow less movement. Bad news is now you need to figure out those bushings.

And i'll have to run equally stiff trans mount bushings to keep the vibes down. Made that mistake with my pickup...stiff tranny mounts and stock engine mounts. it vibed really bad.

good point with the oil pan, i hadn't considered that.

I'm getting a 72 truck motor for cheap, that'll i clean up and get running. Failing that, i'll at least get all the accessories with it, and use it for mock up with the trans. Short and long block SBC's are easy to come by usually.

I think i'll order the second option then....

well to further add to the debate...I bought the trans-dapt style from Jegs. After searching for literally hours, seems like this style (like the AA ones) are the most commonly used. Granted they'll need some modification, but replacement bushings are available.

I appreciate everyone's input, I found a thread on Pirate where a flatfender j**p builder tried and failed with the first, crossmember style mount. I'm guessing that's for the low-to-the-ground car that needs the oilpan protection.

I used the AA Transdapt version for my 40. I've got 10,000 miles since with no issue. I'm using the other style on my 55 with my LS motor but haven't reached the point to give a report of it running. I think both will will do the job and both have bushings that can always be questionable but the good thing; they are replaceable.
