Heading out to Bridgeport Washington State Park. It is dropping down to 38 C tomorrow. 20 miles east of the largest forest fire in Washington history and flash flood warnings tonight. Should be good.

Since I live within 300 meters of the Coquitlam river I took the kids and dog tubing and let the wife have some alone time yesterday. Today I will try and feel a little better from getting too much Sun. - Off for the next two weeks Vancouver Island watch out here I come !

On the long weekend, My family and I along with Gary and Mike were in the Kootenays helping the local volunteers of the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC renovate the Mt. Lavina Fire Lookout Tower. If you haven't been, I would highly recommend it. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been.

Worked on Monday so stuck close to home Saturday and Sunday, after a one nighter on Thursday at Hale Creek. There were 4 small groups camping at Hale on Thursday. And one small group at Sunrise on Thursday overnight. Went up to Sunrise on Friday, had lunch then headed home....past the hoards that were on Harrison West and Hwy #7

On the long weekend, My family and I along with Gary and Mike were in the Kootenays helping the local volunteers of the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC renovate the Mt. Lavina Fire Lookout Tower. If you haven't been, I would highly recommend it. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been.

Very nice Kim. Several trails in the area north of Kootenay L I've been wanting to see (by truck and foot), I'll add that to my list. Should have time to get out a bit this fall.

Where is Mt Lavina Lookout? Not familiar with it. That is where the 'Beautiful' in BC comes from for sure.

Lavina Lookout - 48.35 km from Rocky Ledges to parking area.
a. At the flashing red light in Kaslo turn left onto A Ave.
b. Toward the top of the hill turn right on North Marine Drive (Hwy. 31) toward Meadow Creek and set your odometer to 0.
c. At 28 km you will pass the village of Lardeau.
d. At 34.5 kms. or (21.4 miles) turn right on Argenta Road toward Argenta and Johnson´s Landing.
e. Cross the Lardeau River and proceed for approx. 1 km on a dirt road.
f. At the three way junction turn left toward Glacier Creek Provincial Park.
g. Proceed approximately 7 kms. and watch for Lavina Forest Service Road marker on your right.
h. Turn right onto Lavina FSR and follow until you reach a large parking area. follow road to Fire Lookout at top. This road is very steep in areas with lots of switchbacks. Elevation is 7280 feet or 2240 meters.
i. GPS at parking lot is: N 50.279807 / W 116.915245

Back in 2002 or 03 the Coastal Cruisers did a joint trip with the RMLCA and the Kootney Cruisers and stayed at one of the local guys cabin at Duncan lake and did a day run up to the look out. There is a Galena mine just down below which we hiked into (10 people in a tight cavern in the dark was a little sketchy) then next day did a trip up to another mine high in the mountains which we got to hike up to a glacier. That was a really good trip (and I often think about it as my first toyota trials cover picture is from there and hangs on the wall of my house to remind me the Kootneys are a really cool place and if they had more work there, I'd be living there for sure

Made a loop through Central Washington and stayed at a few State Campgrounds. Found some potentially good wheeling in Steamboat Rock State Park but didn't wander in too far. It was 35C and desert terrain with limited winching options. Didn't want to risk getting my family stuck there. Will probably visit it again next summer.
