I have been working on an fj40 I took in trade for my Dodge Town Wagon. It was built as a trail rig. My goal was to get it closer to a daily driver status. Then I found my 1973 fj55, Coyote. Trying to get the 40 drivable again so I can sell it to fund the 55's I have. My dilemma is trying to igure out what the PO did to the 40. SOA and power steering were a couple of things. In order to make the power steering pump work, he fabricated a bracket. Unfortunately it moved the altenator out a little, which means stock belt no longer fits. After three trips to the parts house, I finally found the correct size belt. His bracket didn't allow any movement for the altenator. Had to disassemble his entire set up to modify the bracket. He also welded hood pin brackets to the radiator bracket. Made for a lot of grinding just to remove radiator to replace water pump. It would have been nice if this info was recorded into a "build" journal to help the next owner know what had been changed. Made me realize I need to start recording part numbers, where my mods came from ( make model and year of add ons) ectera. I don't plan on selling either 55 anytime soon, but at 65 who knows? Also the journal might help me remember what I used as the memory starts to fade.
