there are a couple ways to go about it. one is to install a cam lock in either the glove box door or above it so that it prevents it from opening when locked. another way is to build your one concealed lock. kindof like the cable that pops your hood in modern rigs and have the lever hidden. good luck to ya and hope my info can help

I don't think there's a drop in replacement lock... but you have to remember that it's just a plastic box... if it's locked a screwdriver would probably break it open...

I think the best option would be to get or build a lockable center console out of metal. It can be a plane ol' rectangle, no fancy compound angles like trying to theft proof a glove box....

Just my thoughts...

Exactly, it's just a flimsy plastic piece, you could put the best lock in the world on the door, but all someone would have to do is grab the bottom edge at the hinges and yank, it will rip right out. Or, just take a phillips screwdriver and unscrew the hinges, it'll fall right out.

X2 on the metal console, get a Tuffy or there are several types of in-vehicle safes you can get that bolt into the vehicle somewhere.

there is a place to get a locking knob because I have one. The place only has them left in blue or red. I will try to find the site. It took me quite a while to find it the first time.

A guy I know on the marlin forum did this for a lockable center console, I will be doing the same thing in my 4runner for when I cruise with the top off.

just cut a hole, weld in an Osh $5 lock and cut a slot for it to lock into. voila cheap, simple, effective.

ammo box

that center console ammo box thinger is not a bad idea....I guess either way the glove box is going to be flimsey....i have a larger wooden ammo box in the back that I bolted to the floor and put a pad lock on.

i guess i'll have to come up with some way of making my new anti theft center console a bit more elbow friendly...i'm thinking duct tape and foam?

thanks for the ideas....

When I do the ammo can center console (still trying to figure out if i want to ditch the rear heater or not) I am just going to reuse my old center console pad or search the junkyard till i find a comparably sized pad to glue on.
