I was looking at replacing my dead handheld GPS and stumbled across this, now do I go this way and upgrade my SPOT as well?

It is pretty interesting technology. What is the charge for the texting ability or is that included somehow with the $550 for the Spot the Delorme?

I imagine that one will be in me future.

Nothing is published yet for this device but the messaging is throw SPOT and the Basic Service Satellite Subscription is $99.99 USD a year. I know I am currently paying 157.93 USD for Basic Service + Track Progress + GEOS Member Rescue Benefit. I can't see them changing there rates.

Basic service for the other two units is $99 a year, double that would be a good deal for texting ability IMHO.
It's great to send a help message to your buddy, even better to tell him to bring an axle when he comes.
