So, I've been re-inspired. Fortunately, my job allows me some travel time - and since I'm back on the road this week with a Cruiser, I thought I better start documenting my trips. This is a historic Civil War battle site where the Texas Cavalry fought and you can see the sign telling about the battle. Beautiful site, north of Coushatta, LA off of LA 1. I passed it so many times this summer, but never stopped by. I was ahead of my crew yesterday, so I thought I'd check it out. The lock is on the Red River, just down the road from the historic marker.

Battle of Mansfield Historic Site

Had to run to Mansfield, LA to pull some tax assessments on a job I was working. Stopped off at the Battle of Mansfield historic site. Nearly 30,000 men faced off here in one of the last battles of the Civil War. The park is very nice, has hiking trails, a museum and a good video about the park and battle. Great picnic site too.

Mansfield Continued

Lafayette's own General Alfred Mouton led a heroic charge against the Union forces that received major praises for his courage. He and roughly 2/3 of the Confederates died on the advance, but they still pushed the Union troops back.

Fishing Rollover Bayou, Vermilion Parish

Finally got some time to go fishing and we nailed the timing and put the smackdown on some redfish. I volunteered to drive b/c I wanted to see how the Cruiser would pull. It got it done.

Sunroof View in Shreveport

The sunroof is one of my favorite things on the rig. Stopped for lunch the other day outside of Barksdale AFB and snapped this. The picture doesn't do it justice. Those B-52's are just amazing to watch.

Nice reds Marty. :clap::)

Nice shot M. My father-in-law will enjoy he flew them in Vietnam. A great plane like Dan added they've been doing time for many years and the best long range bomber made to date which is why they're still on standby. They can sure bring the pain.

That thing can sure put a few holes in the ground.:D

Alot of holes is an understatment. I think off the top of my head it's somewhere around 105 500lb bombs. the life span for the BUFF just keeps getting longer. The airframe keeps getting upgraded. The B1 is aircraft I was on and that thing was a very cool aircraft but it broke alot. 84 500lb bombs internal. with a top speed around mach 2.4

Colorado

Since no one's touched this one in a while and my friend just shipped my camera back from out west, I figured I'd post.

Christmas day I left BR in the cruiser for Colorado to visit some friends, ski and see a concert in Denver for New Year's. The first leg brought us to Lake Charles to pick up a buddy. I was glad to leave that forsaken place. Then we were off to Durango via Albuquerque.

Had to hit Molas Pass where it was very snowy but beautiful.

My friend in Durango lives in the sticks. They had nearly four feet of snow and his F150 got stuck. Of course I volunteered the Cruiser to recover him, but my A/Ts couldn't get any traction.

We then cruised on to Aspen/Snowmass where I did not take many pictures for some reason.

Christmas08Colorado061.jpg

My buddy there had this old cruiser in his front yard. His landlord keeps it there.

After a few days in Aspen, we hit the city for New Years.

Got a limo, partied like rock stars and drove 20 hours straight to get back home. The 80 ran fine. Had the brake light come on around Amarillo and thought I'd have to visit CruiserDan in Albuquerque but it went away. The P401 reared its head a few times but went went away. Put about 3600 miles on her within 9 days. Not a bad trip if you can split the driving with someone.

Good pics and read  Thats a great picture of the early 70's 40 under the snow.

Cool journey. I love the shot of the 40.
A good bit of slack and you can rip that f-150 right out of there.:hillbilly:

Just a few from the Scout trip this weekend to Stephensville.

So I got some free tickets to NYC. I had never been there before so we asked friends about watching the ball drop. We were told that you would have to wait from 2:30 until midnight in the street without a bathroom and drinks. We decided that we would not even attempt to see the ball drop. Well we had these tickets to this place on Broadway to celebrate the new year and stayed there until 11:55. I told everyone that was with me that we should get out of this place and walk the streets to bring in the new year. When we arrived down on the street a cop opened the barricades for us and said "happy new year". We walked 30 yards and this is what we saw.

I won't bother to post any more pics of NYC because I am sure you guys have seen better pics of NYC than I could ever take.

How did ya get soooooo close to the ball?
or did you use one of those long tele lenses?
Ya know come to think of it that thing kind looks like someone I know:meh:

No tele lens. Just a cheap point and shoot camera.
Like I said before, I walked out of a bar and some cops escorted us to Broadway St. and opened a barricade and I was one block away from the ball. If I would have been any closer it would have been too close and looking straight up in the air. Very, very lucky. For once in my life I was at the right place at the right time. I do have to say I didn't want to go to NYC period. My wife wanted to go and we had not spent time alone together in quite some time (7 years). Besides it was free. I was scared that Osama would pay the city a visit. Yes I am a scared wimp.
