Redbird SRA, Indiana

Went to Indiana with the 4Runner and while I was there decided to hit up Redbird. Redbird used to be just an open area to ride but after many accidents, the state shut it down. After many complaints, the Indiana DNR re-opened it as a state riding area. I hadn't been there since I was about 12, but I was very happy to see that it was still very extreme, yet well maintained. All of the trails were well marked with numbers, directions, and skill levels. I wish I could have taken more pictures but it was just me and my brother at Redbird and I forgot my camera and camcorder so it was just my cell phone.

My rear tire lifted because the shock topped-out.

Powerline Hill...I about died riding a 4wheeler on it before the state took it over. It looks small here but if you look on the left side, that's the rocks from the first pictures. My brother and I tried scaling the hill on foot and neither of us made it up.

Looks similar to where we were in Hot Springs. Good pics for a phone I'm glad to hear you had a good trip. Did you put lockers front and rear?

Yes, I put Aussie lockers front and rear. All of it was good until I started getting bearing noise in the rear end on the way back. It started making noise in Jackson, MS. Total trip was about 2500 miles so that's a lot more than it's used to.

Way to go out and cover some miles in that rig! Freakin' right on man!

Youngsville to Vermont Expedition

The Cruiser is about as packed as I can get it. We're leaving early in the AM to drive from here to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (thanks to inspiration by TJDIV and upcruiser) with stops in Jackson, MS, Memphis, TN, Chicago, IL, Green Bay, WI and then the UP and the Great Lakes, unimproved roads and 50 degree nights. Then we're going east to Niagra Falls and on up through New York's Adirondack Mountains and into Vermont to visit some family up there.

Twelve days total and just highway driving looks to be around 5K miles. We're camping :flamingo: all the way, fishing when we can and doing the touristy thing and trail riding where I can. I've got the fluids and tires checked, replaced the fuel and air filter.

iPhone is updated with The Express audiobook, the Toyota Trail Team's podcast videos and some ass kicking music for the highway. The kids have activities and a portable DVD player. We're ready to roll. I'd leave now if I wasn't so tired from packing and prepping the Cruiser all week.

I'll be updating via Facebook (my newest addiction). I'll see you guys in a couple weeks.

Marty

Sounds like an adventure! Have fun and remember to stop and stretch your legs :)

That sounds like a great adventure you have planned out there. Great rig to accomplish it with also !

Happy Trails bud that'll be a great trip for you and the family. I hope you all have a great time. I'll keep in touch with you on facebook. What route are you headed home? I'll be tweaking the 80 the next two weeks for the trip to Tennessee July 24th - August 9th. If you make a pass down I75 around Knoxville area on your way back and need a rest I'll have a room for you.

Burlington, VT = Ben & Jerry's ice cream :D & Vermont Teddy Bears (for the kids but get ready to drop some $$). Montreal is a cool place to check out too, if you get the chance. Have a great trip!

Just an update: drove for 12 hours yesterday and somehow kept my sanity intact. Stopped and stayed at a Best Western in Wisconsin on the border at Michigan. We're about to cross over into the Upper Penninsula. Our first stop is Pictured Rocks National Seashore.

Cruiser is still doing great. Only glitch yesterday was a blown fuse from to many electronics at once. Easy fix and lesson.

The high today is 71

It is already 80 this morning and it's only 8:30! Makes me want to go see my sis in CA and stay til summer is over!

Sounds as tho you are having a good trip. Glad to hear it.

Spent two days in Michigan's Upper Penninsula. I drove from one end of America to the other. We saw Pictured Rocks yesterday, then drove for hours across dirt roads to our camping site on the shore of Lake Superior. The UP is very ORV friendly with miles and miles of trails all over it. The state supports and regulates it too which is nice.

Today we went to the Great Lakes shipwreck museum in Whitefish Point, met the night watchman that was tracking the Edmund Fitzgerald when it sank in Duperior in 1975. Then we explored waterfalls and drove down to St. Ignace where we're bedding down for the night, our last in the UP.

The UP may be the most beautiful place I've ever been, and perfect for a Toyota 4x4 owner/explorer.

One final note: the breweries up here sell 64 ounce glass jugs of their beer for cheap.

ppics pics where are the fregin pics?
