I'll throw that stuff in with the plates.

I remember how nervous I was when I picked up my Lexus in Phoenix and had a 2500 mile ride in an unknown vehicle. However, as soon as I got behind the wheel, it was all too familiar. No matter how you cut it, it's an 80. You're going to know within the first few miles if there's something serious that you need to address. If it feels good, then it is good. You'll know right away.
Monitor the cooling system, but you're also not traveling in mid-summer heat. Change the oil, grease the uni-joints, stop at a Walmart and grab some supplies for the road. Pack a full set of OEM belts in your carry on.

I bought the 40mm size. My understanding is the 39mm is the ideal size but it isn't made anymore. Guys have bought 38 or 40. 38 is a little loose. I bought it on Amazon. It was about $50 total between the two. It will go in the top hose coming off the radiator.
so did you get a new silicone hose to splice it into?

Yeah, Joey has driven it a little bit and says he would have no problems filling it with gas and going the 1800 miles. So I think it's good to go.

I'm going to pack a set of belts. Plus I'm hitting Cruiser Outfitters along the way. Then stopping at Trail Tailor. I figure if something were to go wrong I've got an army of Mudders to come to my rescue. :) Plus @bryson and @MDarius and a few others have offered to come help me out. :D

I'll put the temp gauge in before I leave LA and watch that.

This is going to be fun!

Nope. Regular rubber. I'm not a fan of silicone hoses. No personal experience with them but figure I've run rubber hoses for 24 years on my 92, rubber will be fine.

I've got your back within 4-6 hours of here. You make it to Cheyenne and you're on your own. There's no good reason to go there.

And @BILT4ME has offered to come help once I get closer to Iowa. And someone in Cheyenne but I can't remember who...

I may swing down through Denver from Cheyenne. My brother in law lives there.

Who knows? After I get my rack and sliders from Trail Tailor I will just be rambling... Taking me wherever the wind blows.

If you come far enough south to Kansas City, I'll make sure you get some GOOD barbecue, as one of the places here is on the list of "13 places you must eat before you die."

Otherwise, if I need to come help, we can stop and get some Casey's pizza anyplace..............

Yeah, KC has some good BBQ. Been to Joes a few times while down there.

Although it would be more fitting to hit up LCs by the stadium.

I'll help unload some parts from cruiser outfitters and trail tailor if you stop by my house on your way across Iowa lol.

You buy it and I'll drop it off in Des Moines on my way through. Assuming it will fit in the 80... :hillbilly:

I'm a little over an hour north of DM, a bit out of your way, but thanks for the offer :). I'll be ordering a knuckle rebuild kit and ome lift from CO here shortly. I planned on waiting a few months on armor, but I'm really digging TT sliders. I know my wife is going to be pissed when I get the 315s and lift on, so I'll probably be getting step sliders sooner than planned:bang:

I worked within a mile of LC's and went there a number of times. I grew up on a farm with hogs and sheep and cows, so I'm used to flies. but not THAT many as are in that restaurant. They got shut down for a while about 5 years ago for unsanitary conditions.

Joe's is the place, and now a new one called Q39 and there is always Jack Stack.

If you change your mind and want sliders you can be the second 93-94 to get sliders from Jason...

You gotta stop worrying about what your wife thinks bro. There is no room for rationality or feelings (other than your love for your 80) when it comes to making buying decisions.

How long have you been single?

How long have you been single?

Been married 19 years on March 15. She gave up a long time ago trying to rationalize with me regarding my Land Cruisers. I don't drink, don't smoke, don't gamble, don't golf, I have Land Cruisers. No questions asked. And she's a cool ass chick.
