Started the tear down today. Didn't get as far as I hoped as but got started none the less. Got the front seats out (and sold), cage, skid plate (also sold) and the front clip is off.

IH8GettingOld.... messed up my shoulder and my neck today getting the cage out. Still sore but I should be able to tranny/transfer out tomorrow afternoon and drop the gas tank and rear seat.

Rig looks a little different then it did at DSR. Really need to get the cage and 2F sold next so I can order the Atlas II.

Hey Mike, what kind of plans for motivation? Al
Me or the truck? ;)

The truck will be getting a '98 Vortec 5.7, SM465, Atlas II 4 spd w/10.3. I wanted a NV4500 but those have not come down in price enough yet, so I'll be changing the diffs to a 3.73 gear. That'll put about 252.6:1 in low, low, low with a bunch of options in between

Other projects will be "tubbing" the rear wheel wells, reskinning the quarters, Metal Tech cage with front and rear seat cradles and frame tie-ins, new wiring harness, new gauges and PRP suspension seats :bounce:. If I have time I'll build some new sliders but those can wait 'til next year when the D60's and links go in :D

I'm hoping to have everything done by March to take it to the Round Up at Katemcy.... gonna be a busy winter.

My motivation is bigger rocks

Seats

Hey Mike, what did those rear seats come out of?

Thanks
Brian

The seat came out of a Tracker/Sidekick and the headrests (I added) were off another Zuk/Geo of some type...... and It's for sell too.... ;)

I managed to get the tranny and xfers dropped out last night. I need to get them on a pallet and probably headed for Utah.

Rainy cold windy today so I don't think I'll the motor and radiator pulled til later in the week.... hopefully by then I'll have my folks cabinet doors and drawers out of the garage and can winch the 40 inside.

Does anyone know the BTU's on one of those umbrella shape propane patio heater things? I'm not paying $54 for 5 gallons of kerocene this winter! Need a new heat source for the garage

40-50,000 btu for the commercial grade patio units. You would be better served by an overhead tube type radiant unit.

Unless you're often opening and closing your overhead doors a convection type forced air unit will work well too. I prefer the warm air and quick warming of convection units unless it's in an area with a lot of air exchange due to open doors. In those situations radiant is considerably more efficient. Being tall, I don't like working under the radiant units because my head gets uncomfortably hot before the rest of me gets warm. It might be different for those of you without shaved heads.

Will it work with the full Metaltech cage?

Thanks

Dunno... with a little steel and a welder I bet it would. It sits between the wheel wells and it bolted to the floorboard. I've seen some with the front mounts bolted down with the body mount bolts in the bed. Works okay for the kids, but kind of tight for adults.

The overhaul is officially on hold :frown:

I've got to spend the winter finishing the basement family room and bathroom and do a bunch of yard work and painting this spring so we can put the house up for sell.

Deb's been offered a relocation package that will take to The Woodlands, TX, just north of Houston. The other option would have possibly been a severance package so it was kind of a no-brainer on our part. Get paid to move to Texas or be unemployeed in Kansas.

We probably won't move 'til after schools out (hopefully anyway). We've started looking at houses around Magnolia, TX. Great schools, public & private, close to The Woodlands, most of the lots we've looked at on-line are 1+ acre lots with no HOA's:ban:..... I can park MY junk and MY house and build a air conditioned garage for the 40 and the Dodge with car-port for the camper. Novel concept

The better news is there are two small ORP's within an hours drive, Katemcy is 4.5 hours (about the same distance as Disney is now), Corpus Christi is 4 hours, and New Orleans 6 :hillbilly:. Disney is just over 8 hours :frown: and Big Bend State Park is about 12..... better then the 15+ hours now.

Toward the end of January I'll be having a work day for the basement. 'Bout all I can offer is pulled pork, smoked ribs and an adult beverage or two. Anyone interested in helping out or just dropping buy for food welcome.
