Another work day on the LC getting it ready for the trail. Removing more stuff that could get snagged up. Today I removed factory roof rack and rear wind deflector.

Also not shown in the pics, I trimmed the rear mud flaps and removed the trailer harness on the tow hitch.

I wanted to remove my roof rack also. I read somewhere that water could get inside the holes where the bolts go if they werent sealed with a rubber washer...not sure if it's true but...did you just put the bolts back in?

It's very true, CDan even warned me when I called up and ordered the OEM plates to cover up the openings in the roof rail.

I will post more info later, but you can not use the factory bolts they are way too long. You need to get some 20mm long bolts to replace them. I used a metal washer under the bolt head, then a rubber washer under the metal one to seal the holes. It worked great, snap on the OEM covers and you would never know there was a roof rack there.

It sucks that the list price on OEM covers are ~$10 each x 6

Yeah, I think CDan charged me $41 for all 6. After installing them, really they are just cosmetic and not needed. The covers don't do anything for sealing the holes for water. If you never go up there and look, you could just leave the openings and save the money.

do the 20mm bolts come with the oem covers?

No, you get them at a local hardware store.

The 8mm bolts are 1.25 pitch, the 6mm bolts for the wind deflector are 1.00 pitch. You need 12 8mm bolts, and 4 6mm bolts. I also used metal and rubber washers which also came from the local hardware store. All together is was around $18.00 in hardware.
