After 15 years with my much-loved BJ70, I got a new truck!

Been thinking about it for a few years now. Thought I had it figured out, then would go ping ponging back and forth between a 74 and an 81, and back again. In the end I'm really a 70 series guy, so I finally placed my order. My wish list was no rust, lockers, FF, a/c, and the biggie: sub 100,000kms. I settled for a non-locked truck, figuring that I do have 2 ARBs, 4.56s AND a FF sitting around already.

Haven't decided the fate of the 70 yet. I'll either pull all the good stuff off it, move it to the 74, and flog it, or make a total bush beater out of it. I like that idea, but my total vehicle count is getting a bit ridiculous for a guy (with no garage) that's away so much of the year, so we'll see...
For now I'm pretty excited with that 13B-T (pulled the Cut at 90km/h...in 5th! The 70 does it at 68km/h...in 3rd) and cold-blowin' a/c.

Anyway, here's a couple of crappy pics while the Armour-all is still wet on the tires :D

Must have waited a while for that one, 74s don't come by very often anymore and < 100,000km is pretty rare to boot. Nice truck.

very very nice.... congrates.

Did you import it yourself or get it from someone?

Thanks - It's an Outback truck. I had absolutely no interest in trying to do it myself.

Norm! End of an era? Or the beginning of a new one?

Nice and shiny 70, now lets go scratch and dent it :)

It may take a bit of time before I can stomach scratching and denting this one. :princess:
At the very least it'll need to be armoured beyond anything reasonable, to compensate for my "natural ability and driving skill..."

It's pretty and cute.

Congratulations on your new arrival!

a 74 series heh, next you'll be teaching band class at the local high school
Then maybe you'll have the whole summer off and even go wheeling

ps
grand daugthers - no
old enough to be their father - yes

I can see it now, Norm teaching them power chords, some AC/DC tunes...the school of Rock!

So...now that its been a few days, how do you like the 13BT?

Bah. No big deal.

NOT! So far it's exactly what I wanted - what I already had, only way better. It's just a treat to drive this truck - love my new :princess:

Oh, it got it's first mod today :grinpimp:

BJ70 Resurrection

Hey Norm,

I am a CC member. Don't mean to impose but I have been looking for a CDN spec BJ70 for a while now. Willing to chase the rust on a nice 70 with a good frame. Perhaps you'd sell it to me. If you are interested please give me a call at 376-2929. I live in Coquitlam.

Cheers,

Justin

well if they do crank the rated on RHD's.... you could consider doing a LH drive swap using your bits from the BJ70.

Well, it usually takes me forever to make these kinds of decisions - if I do decide to sell rather than keep as a bush beater I will let you know for sure. The frame is very solid, drivetrain is solid.
But I would be taking all the good stuff (lift, gears, lockers, bumper/winch) off it to move to the 74, so it would essentially be a stocker...

Yep, I mentioned to greg that if the RHD heat got too unbearable that I would convert it to LHD, and it would still be a cheaper vehicle than a new Jetta.
But it would have to get pretty bad - even after only 120 kms in the RHD it just doesn't seem like much of an issue.

1st - Thanks for the tip Jeff. I have been corresponding with Craig from rmlca. Super guy, met him at the River shiver.

Thanks for responding Norm. Totally understand. Still interested in a stocker 70. I'd pick a set of Beltons and never look back. . . Maybe keep my number but I realize it might be a long time until you are ready to move it.

Cheers,

Justin

Hey Justin. I noticed you may have to make a change to you signature, '81 BJ42. You sold it right? Although knowing you, if you keep it for a month or two you will probably own one again...or a 60...or a 70...or a 74...
