That was my next question.....where do you guys think I should take it? Tedd at Cruiser Solutions? Wellesley Toyota bodyshop? Local bodyshop? Classic car specialist? Kinda stumped.

I would like to get the entire thing painted which will cost me out of pocket a bit so Tedd might not be realistic. I dont want 1/2 a truck mint and the other half original paint with fades and scratches.

Well, the auto transporter let his cargo insurance expire. Looks like it's not going to Tedd's. I always seem to get fugged by s***ty people. Going to get some cash out of him. he offered $200.....not going to fly. Getting bodyshop estimates tomorrow.

Wow. JUst back straight off.

FYI, its an $11k per day fine and an arrestible offense to operate without insurance (credit to Rufus for the info)

Stick the screws to him. I'd file every complaint in the book. I'd be out for blood. Cargo insurance? That might be covered on his liability insurance. I'd push him to get that information and try filing a claim. I've seen a lot of high risk business though work and a large majority of the claims are filed by the claimant because they can't afford to have an accident and don't report it.

I'd threaten him with this first and see if he raises his offer.

I believe there's a federal motor carrier site where you can check his insurance for interstate trucking. I can get the website for you.

It's an $11k per day fine for not having cargo insurance and is an arrestable offense. One call will end his driving career forever. I dont think the guy has a dime to his name so I bet I'll get nothing out of him. Likely it will end up going through the brokers insurance. If the driver doesn't pay the full amount I'll be calling my cousin with the state police and will get the ball rolling on getting this dickbag off the roads.

At 5am I realized this guy actually charged me an extra $120 for waiting 2 hours at the port. The 2 hours he was waiting for them to fix the truck disaster. I've been boiling mad all day.

Oh man at this point you have nothing to lose. Confront him and see why he has to say. You are holding all the cards. Wether he pays, or the brokerage company pays, someone needs to pay for the damages and it shouldn't be you.

$3327 is the repair estimate. Told him I need an answer on his plan to pay me by noon tomorrow and that I want cash in-hand by Xmas eve. I'm sure he's broke so I'll likely be moving on to steps 2 and three soon

My broker opened a claim with Progressive which is the drivers insurance company. Progressive wouldn't confirm or deny that he had insurance until a claim was filed.which seemed odd. Apparently he let it lapse but has 30 days to reinstate the policy.

If he doesnt reinstate, I take the photos, the dated pickup slip he signed and a statement from Progressive saying he was not insured at the time and bring all that to the State of CT RMV and get his CDL pulled. I'll probably do that last part anyway.

My broker is a rockstar and has offered to buy the BJ42lx for exactly what I have into it at this point to break even.

Wouldn't it be worth it to just pay the guy's insurance for him to get it reinstated?

His deductible is $2500. the bill is $3200. Insurance monthly for a car carrier is a lot of money on top. not optimistic. I have a buyer anyway so we'll see what happens
