Costco has had paper towels and TP every time I’ve been there over the past 3 months (In the morning). Target never has but maybe 2-3 packs of some bobo TP.

The Ingles in West Jefferson last week had a normally stocked looking paper products isle. I just stood there in aww and took it in.
 
( in the future). Lemme tell you about 2020.... the year there wasn’t enough toilet paper to deal with all the political crap we had to go through....

If I have a Hefty bag with other body parts sling over my shoulder and a saw all, would that be a suitable substitute?
 
Also, there is a cheer/dance studio for kids and teens in Garner that is fully packed every afternoon. Has to be 100 people there with the kids and moms. They don't sell food, they aren't 'essential', its a workout place.

Again, why can't a bar and my gym be open?

Why do we have such idiocy in charge of us?

Small business impact and *some level of* inflation are inevitable with this kind of situation I would imagine. Think about all the restaurants and cafes and whatnot that serviced all of the corporate offices around the region. Tens of thousands of workers were told by their companies to work from home before the government mandated stuff happened. It sucks, but things like restaurants were going to out of business no matter what, esp when the savior programs like PPP went mostly to huge companies instead of small business.
 
We were shut down, the virus was beginning to show signs of slowing down, actually was slowing down in many areas. Scientists stated that we should stay the course for another month or two. Politicians said, open things up to save the economy. Things opened up, the virus found new life and here we are breaking records on sick and dead daily all over the country.

Now the federal unemployment benefits are gone and the politicians are arguing among themselves on how much the average Joe should get to stay just far enough behind on their bills. Our supreme leader delegates all the tough decisions to the states and offers suggestions like injecting disinfectant while being as divisive as possible. Meanwhile each state is left to come up with their own game plan. All the political folks and athletes get Covid tested on a daily basis with results in a day while the peasants wait a week if they are willing to wait in line for 5-8 hours to be tested.

We all get to vote in Nov. We can sit and bitch or we can vote all these do nothing people out of office. I know, all that research to find out what candidates actually stand for and what they have done in the past is soooo tiresome. Go ahead and vote the party line, it's so much easier. :)
 
There has been a lot of discussion by the “experts” about Sweden doing it right by staying open, or limited open. Below is Sweden deaths companies to Finland and Norway,their neighbors, that did shutdown earlier. Pretty telling...

Some people have been watching way too much CNN.
(while we're at it... Governors should be the ones making the decisions and congress should get over the politics and agree on a plan.)

Guess we've given up on keeping politics out of this thread?

I never watch CNN. I am one of those strange people that formulate my own opinions and believe we ALL have a right to our opinions whether I, or you agree with them.

**This isn't directed at any one person, more about society as a whole**

I can't stand how everything including COVID is politicized in todays world. Personally, I never believed in the two party political paradigm. As a child I thought running the government based upon a game of tug of war was just plain stupid. As I got older it was easy to see we live in a plutocracy more than anything else so I always focused more on the issues than political party. I simply state all of this because I as impartial as it comes to this issue.

I won't point fingers at those who have politicized everything because that is obvious to everyone. The cat is out of the bag on that. I just wish we as a society could truly discuss this issue and others without seeing everything through a political prism. In the last four years I have been called every ...ism and ...ist in the book, been spit on, and oh yes apparently I am a Nazi as well for just trying to have civil conversations. On the left, we get it orange man bad, but he is not the sole reason for every single thing that is wrong in the world. On the right, not every democrat is a socialist or communist that wants to ruin America. I know this is a gross over simplification on my part, but this is divide and conquer in its purest form. If we don't unite as Americans those who pull the strings win. Sorry I will get off my soap box now.

When it comes to COVID I personally don't really believe all of the "official" reported metrics when it comes to deaths and infections. I base this upon the years I worked as a JCAHO inspector conducting audits in hospitals. In my experience, when hospitals have a financial incentive of any kind they will exploit and maximize everything they can to benefit the bottom line. The amount of violations and all out fraud I would find was simply stunning at times. I certainly admit I am jaded on this issue, but that is because I have seen behind the curtains when it comes to our medical system. So I can't help but coughing BS under my breath when I hear the latest and greatest "official" numbers.


Stay safe everyone, eventually we will all get through this or a ****ing asteroid will hit us. I mean it is 2020 after all.
 
I don’t doubt the hospital padding thing, but you can’t dismiss the excess death count. Week to week going back to Feb/March the number of people dying on any given day in the US has run 25-50% higher than an other recent year.
