This is going to be a thread for my whole rebuild. im wanting the final picture to be a nice trail buggy but it needs some work. I don't know a lot about fjs but I heard that this website could help. the best thing about this iron pig is that it runs. engine and transmission are in good shape.

the first thing is does anybody know where I can get some rebuild kits for all of the break cylinders because they all need to be replaced and if you could post some pictures of break cylinders that might help me with what the break cylinders should look like so I know im doing it right.
Thanks

Ill look around in there a bit. Does anybody know the diffrrent carborator types like (and I don't know the terminology) single hole or something like that. Does anybody know if the 1969 fj55 have a single carborator hole/bore/tube or will I have to post some pics of the aftermarket strange carborator that is on it now
Thanks

Pics always help, especially for non-OE.

Probably be useful for you to know the block casting number found on the passenger side of block, closer to firewall. Can determine production date from it, which also aids in determining corresponding components, since there are changes mid year.

Its an f125. Does that help?

It doesn't look like an F125. Maybe somebody was having some fun with a paintbrush!

There's an off chance it's actually a 68, as you do have the front marker lights that were common to both years. If so, you could have a metal adapter plate on the intake manifold as well that adapted it from a 2bbl down to a one bbl.

A picture is worth a thousand words.:)

Hmm I'm away from it untill next weekend then ill look it over real good take stuff off look for serial numbers and really home on what I'm working with

However you can determine from that pic is impressive.

Jesse,
May seem a shameless plug, but in time would realize my purpose isn't profit.

Relatively local to you and have amassed a decent collection of Pig parts, some skin which you'll need.

The drivers side on the parts Pig was absolutely perfect.....until I dented it.....but minor and still viable.

We need to talk some more.
Do u possibly have passenger and driver side floor pans? Or maybe a carborator?

No and no.

Unless it's a pristine Pig, the floor pans are going to be rusted on any, so not really an ideal part of an old shell to seek.

If the floor pans, body mounts, and rockers are in good shape on a donor shell, consider swapping the entire shell.....unless you've some dumb idea about trying to keep the OE metal intact like another idiot I know.

Odds of finding good floor pans and rockers on a shell that didn't come with a healthy dosing of port installed rust are slim.

bobm makes floor pans, along with rockers, front fender patch panels, rear quarter patch panels, and body mounts that are the best option I know of, to repair with.

Be back with link to the thread concerning.

Last OR carb I had went to Pighead and Ige, besides the 72s which has been a Jim Cs for many months, awaiting rebuild.

Will have an aftermarket carb, but it needs attention and not worth the effort, considering an OE core can be had for $50-100 to rebuild, (rebuild kits are ~$30. Jim C rebuild ~$350) or Trollhole offers bolt on replacements for ~$300, ready to bolt on.

You'll, more than likely, need the OE air filter housing and mount, which I have, if returning to OE or Trollhole replacement.

I actually found those in the back of the pig I bought. the pic u put on here is in a lot better condition than mine. Would it fit on mine if I pit a trollhole carb on it?

If you have one already, then you could refinish and be in the same shape as this. The pics don't show the lackluster quality of the finish.....and I'm the one who refinished it.

$25 to blast, $15 in epoxy primer, another $15 in 202 (matched, but not close to OE) paint.

I paid a bunch for this one, then bought a parts Pig that had one in it.

As far as I know, Trollhole's carbs are identical to the OE in form and function, just made on the western side of the Sea of Japan. (Not accurate, but this ain't Geography and it sounded better.)

Would need to determine how much your throttle cable/linkage has been monkeyed with. Think the earlier had a cable, but really a question for the pros.

Mine was hacked up and have to redo all from pedal to carb to return to OE,

You seem to know what you're talking about. Thanks for all the info. Heres another one for ya. Do u know where I can get some rebuild kits for the brake cylinders. All of them need to be rebuilt. I think the fj40 brake cylinders are the exact same but Im not sure. What do you know about that stuff.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

I don't know anything, Jesse, but what I've learned in the Sty. I'm new, too, having began a 72 resto, first real resto I've even done, earlier this year, and have paid dearly for the education.

I'm not a bead of sweat on a frogs ass.

Ige and Pighead are the Preservation Societies resident experts on 55s, and folks like Mark A above can pick out the engine type from a crappy pic of the rear tailgate.

Happy to relay what I've learned, but please take all with the knowledge of knowing I ain't much further along than you are.

Cruiser Corps offers rebuild kits, as does Spectre Off Road and surely a few others. They'll list side, axle, vehicle specifics.

I don't believe the OE kits are still available and know the OE cylinders are not.

Will add.

Might be a good time to consider the long term approach to power steering options and/or disc brakes for the front. Several options for both, depending on intended purpose of build, but the 60 series front upgrade allows for disc, keeps it Toyota with available parts, and there are options for 60 series PS boxes too.

Fronts should be the same as 40s on the early drums, rears were 55 specific. You can get cylinders and rebuild kits from $OR -
