Saw this got posted in youtube. I've not had a chance to watch it at work, and TFL is not my favorite channel.

Just the same, with overlanding and off-road culture taking off, there seems to be a renewed interest in the ol 200-series platform. Any news or coverage is good news in my mind.

As you're one of the very few owners of both models, that would surely be useful insight. More useful than the TFL reviewers even. Though I think TFL owns their LC as a long term vehicle now?

It would especially be useful for the newbies that often come on the boards seeking information about which may suit them better.

I actually try to steer newbs towards the LX as much as possible - my short take is the LX is the value play and in many ways is better than even a new LC. I like them both, a lot, but the LX is the better value and is materially nicer IMO.

I've actually thought of doing a write up of just the opposite - my 08 LX vs 16 LC. I think people would be surprised by the outcome...
How do we make this happen!

It's a matter of finding time really...I'm booked and/or traveling 8 of the next 11 weeks :( I'll get a little break in May after Cruise Moab wraps up though, so maybe then I can put together a comprehensive video/writeup.

I refuse to believe a single word you say. 🙃

He certainly made it clear he is an LC/LX fan.

Only thing that seemed a little odd was...
He spent a great deal of time saying how “completely different” things are inside between the LC and LX...and seemed to indicate it was because of LC vs. LX lines...forgetting he was also comparing 2019 interior to a 12 year old 200.

Interior differences still exist, to be sure...but the contrast is far less stark comparing same-year to same year.

But meh... Nobody’s perfect. :hillbilly:

The TFL folks are very definite about the LX570 being an LC poser. Roman, the boss of TFL, is very definite in his position. I'm shopping for an affordable LX or LC and cannot see where they differ much. The LX seems to be a couple of years ahead in included features but, as a newb, I could certainly be wrong.

No one is a bigger poseur than Roman.

You are not wrong - he is

Heck, that gives you 3 whole weeks out the next 11 with nothing to do. Plenty of time........:bounce:

Yea, Roman is adamant about his bias against the LX, I don't get it. He has an argument in regards to the front end on the 2016+ LX being a bit tacky and having worse approach angles in comparison and the AHC can be labeled as a liability in the long run, but other than that the LX wins in the interior appointments and headlights and beyond brand new it is the better value. At the end of the day the LX is just a Land Cruiser in fancier clothes. Now if someone would just make a quality front winch bumper for it we would be good to go.

Does the 16+ LX win over a 16+ LC in the headlight department? Honest question. I haven't been in either after dark, but the lamps in my 13 LC are fantastic.

Toyota removed the H11 headlight grade fogs in the LC and LX in the 16+ redesign.

In my 2013 LX, the fogs, in reflector mirror housings when upgraded to 30W LEDs, outperform the projector high beams (also upgraded to 30W LED).

Before the redesign, the fog lights had a decent sized reflector, a headlight plug, wiring harness, and 55w capacity (with halogen) to back it up. This, to me, is an advantage to the earlier design of fog lights.

Not a huge deal, but I can see the difference.

That said, having driven both, the low beam performance of both models' LED headlights are good.
Aim is also a factor as factory aim is typically a little low.

TFL is easy to make fun of but it hits me in the dad feelings that Roman and his kid get to work together and do their thing. I’ve got two rad girls and hope we can share something like that when they grow up.

Alright, back to talking about how dumb it is to compare an 08 land cruiser to an 18 LX.

Comparing a decade older version of the non-luxury version of the 'same' vehicle seems a bit disingenuous.

Exactly.
When I hop in @indycole ‘s ‘16 LC after being used to my 2008 interior?? Believe me, it feels just as night and day as what he attributed to being an LX difference.

So ya, describing it as a LC vs. LX interior comparison on model years that are 11 years apart was pretty silly. 11 years later, LC vs. LC is similarly transformative.

I agree that it's not fair to compare a 2008 LC with a new LX but when I bought my '17 LX I was really shopping for a LC. I far preferred the exterior of the LC but it did not feel like an $85k vehicle on the inside, sorry to say but it felt kinda cheap and dated with a lot of plastics and fake wood. While the LX in contrast is not perfect the quality of materials and execution is much better and feels closer to it's price tag.
