I will admit to teh leatherman fetish as well. always on my belt with a 2AA mag light next to it. agree with dan here though if you know what you need to do you wil do it first and stop to think about it later. otherwise precious seconds are wasted trying to figure out what to do.
Oh and for what its worth, the corner edge of a leatherman wave will bust tempered glass in a hearbeat.

i don't want to appear stupid, but can't you unbuckle a seatbelt?
[/quote]

This reminds me of a story of a time that I could have used something to cut the seatbelt.

Several years ago I was driving my '72 Datsun pickup and stopped at the local Home Depot. When I went to release the seat belt, the lift mechanism on the seatbelt broke off and the belt didn't release. On those older Datsuns, the seatbelts weren't retractable, so there I am stuck in my truck. Well, I was barely able to reach one hand around and loosen the belt and then I was able to slide out from under the belt. I'm sure it would have been funny to watch!

So, I can think of at least one situation where a tool to cut the belt would have been helpful. Of course this wasn't an emergency situation, but who knows when something like this might happen.

[glow=black,2,2]Speaking of being pseudo-trapped by your own vehicle .... or rental ;) . There's a fellow on here ( won't mention any names :-X ) , that actually slammed the trunk closed on his tie one day , virtually pinning him to the spot . Couldn't reach the release , and I don't think he could reach the keyhole , as he was near the mid/side of the car when he slammed 'er shut . As I recall , he went into the next meeting with a sawed off tie !! :D :D :D

I'm thinking maybe ties should also have an embedded extrication device ! :p [/glow]

its all about the quick release tie. I can see teh design forming in my head now........

Already exists Dave,

It's called a "clip-on"

Didn't you ever see Animal house?

Happens every time.
I come up with the million dollar idea only to see its implementation by another person.

T Y L E R,

I'm certain that Doug appreciates your tact and discretion.

I'm sorry boys and girls but I just reread the original posts from T Y L E R and Doug from about 2 years ago and it's worth your time to take a trip back to yesteryear....

Enjoy! (minor editing to protect privacy)

T-Man! That gave me a great visual, and reminded me of arriving at a
business meeting in a rental sedan. Keys in the ignition, trunk open. I
pull my stuff out of the rear seat, reach in at an odd angle to pull
something from the trunk, then just push the trunk shut from a point near
the hinges to save time. As the trunk shuts home, I get a visual of my tie
serpentine between the scissors style hood hinges. Then the trunk is down
and there is silence while I ponder my options. I can only move my head
about 7 inches away from the car before the tie pulls me up short. I try
laying my legs across the trunk in a vain attempt to get the latch with my
toe. I stand, er, crouch and try to hook the ignition key with my toe (has
trunk remote) - no go. Finally, I decide to just yank back with my hands on
the car for leverage and go to my meeting with a funny story. That's when I
discovered that prisoners really CAN hang themselves with a necktie - those
things are strong. There is a brief moment when I think I may not be able
to tear it out of there, then it abruptly starts to tear. I was the hit of
the meeting, needless to say.

My finest moment....thanks B, and Tyler......heh.

My wife and I were doing a test drive of a new car. We were about to return it when we thought that we should sit in the back seat to see how they were. We got in the back and then, trying to exit, realized that the child door locks were set.

Relatively small car = a bit of climbing to get into the frnt and outside, while people looked on

Cheers, Hugh

[glow=black,2,2]...All I can say is I'm sure glad that water wasn't flooding into the 80 . . Maybe if I'd kept a few    hanging from the visor , I might not have been so 'ranggie' . Hmmm , *thinking* .. perhaps a banana-emercency-drop-down system is in order . Might come in more handy than a regulator :D . Couple that with some smelling salts , a caffeine bolus and an intrinsic adrenaline dump and I should be good to go next time ... hehe

Thanks for the flashback Mr -B- :D :p [/glow]
